In a word, how would you describe your garden as of today?

Doing wonderful! I picked a bunch of green beans and tomatoes today that I'll be able to get some canned tomorrow! My spinach and lettuce didn't do anything but I'll just plant more carrots and beans in those spots. I love canning and enjoying my fresh produce all year long. And nothing beats a garden fresh tomato, I swear, it tastes like sunshine

I had my first canning day of the season yesterday! Its always exciting to hear that "ping!" Today i need to finish up the carrots (hoping for 35+ pints) and then my early green beans need picked. It was only 1 row meant for table fare but I should still get a few quarts off of it before the main harvest is ready.

I love canning too! There is a special connection you have when you open a mason jar in January and all the hard work, joy, and passion of growing your own food from planting to harvest finally reaches the table. Its like a rush of satisfaction in every "pop."

I completely agree! I actually cheer a little when I hear the "pop"! My husband just shakes his head😂

Don't fret. Depending on where you live, now -aug is an excellent time for getting your fall plantings in the ground.
This is where I admit I've never tried fall planting. 😅 Going to try it this year - just seeded some kohlrabi and I've got a patch available for various Asian greens. I pulled 2 cabbages so I can plant 2 more.

Prior to this, for fresh greens, I was getting by with kale, chard and collards, letting them get as big as possible through spring and summer so I could eat them in fall and winter. But it's tiresome eating just 2 or 3 things for months...

Do uou freeze your greens? I had a bumper crop of spinach and chard 2 yrs ago and froze it for use in a variety of soups, omelets, etc over winter.

I'm not overly keen on frozen greens (and spinach has been a massive bust this year, only got 2 to sprout) though I guess technically the kale and collards leaves freeze on the plant. I break them off as needed and bring them in to thaw out slightly before I make lunch.
