Incubating and discouraged

She’s out! One of her feet appears to have curled toes. Hopefully that will correct itself by the time she gets fluffy? Is that a thing? If not I’ll make a shoe if she pulls through. She’s very tired.

A lot of mine have curled toes at first but 99% of them correct themselves within the first few hours to first day.

Only 1 I had to correct and he’s fine now. :) yay! Congrats!

Yay! I think it's normal to be tired after that kind of struggle. I wouldn't be surprised if she isn't interested in much else but sleeping and eating the next few days. And don't worry about her toes; you already know about the shoe method. Two of mine had curled feet that self-corrected in a day or so (one's still got a wonky toe, but they walk fine).

If the curled toes don't go away after at least half a day of being fluffy and active, then you might need to make a shoe. Usually it corrects before then. If you have vitamins add them to the water as that can help the toes correct faster. Congrats on the baby!

Well friends, one chick hatched, 2 died in shells. They were in the same condition as the one I helped but had been unable to externally pip. The rest are a range of partially developed-never developed.
I had to leave for work so I decided I’d put safety holes in anything that I had deemed viable at lockdown just in case there were any more struggling.
What I learned:
Everyone is awesome and helpful!
My temps must be ok because the ones that developed were essentially ready Day 17.
I have a sticky chick problem, from what I’ve gathered it can either be a humidity issue (not enough) or an air exchange issue (too much ventilation)
I may have a fertility issue
I may have a bacteria issue.

So I already picked up a plastic cooler to move my components to. I’m going to dip my eggs and be extra vigilant about keeping everything clean. I’m also going to keep a journal as was suggested to keep track of settings and things that may effect hatch. I’m going to do more research on where/how many vent holes are needed. And I’m going to set up an egg turner so I don’t need to handle the eggs as much. This time I’m also going to put my heat source above the eggs as I read somewhere that works better than having it below them as it is now.
Just trying to stay positive and hatch out a game plan :thumbsup

Sounds like you have a great plan. There's a YouTube video by Rush Lane Poultry that was really helpful to me for creating a DIY incubator, you might want to check it out.
