Incubating and discouraged

Sorry to hear that.

Have you considered starting with a purchased incubator? Mine has been great for me and I see a lot of them advertised used online so not necessarily a lot of investment. Trying to perfect a DIY is probably causing a lot of your problems.

I agree, it’s definitely me perfecting the bator holding me back here.
Unfortunately I have seen no used Bators in my area and I looked a long time for one that is affordable to me.
They are super expensive locally, and the shipping cost from the states is almost as much as the bator costs :/

I'm so sorry she didn't make it :hit
At least she won't be alone, which would have been stressful to her. You will get it this next hatch and hatch a ton of babies.
Yes you are right about her being lonely and stressed. I was thinking about trying to incorporate her into my flock after several weeks and her having no social skills would have been tough as well.

Some folks have had luck integrating mixed ages, using the playpen method and making sure the younger birds have a place to escape from the older if there's aggression. Some older birds act parental and look after the younger ones. Even just having the younger chick where they can watch the older would help teach the social skills.

It’s warm enough I probably could have done that. I’ll tuck that info away for the future. My hens are all sweethearts and my roo is a pretty good gentleman for the most part now that his competition is gone. So a baby probably would have been ok given a hiding spot.
