good news (i think) i went out tonight and there was a bunch of the wet feed on the ground all around the bowl and in the water bowl right next to it.I know but if you are seeing watery poop today it's probably because he hasn't had any thing of substance to eat and water melon is just like drinking water. Hopefully he'll start getting interested in the food soon.
roeun. unfortunately i dont know his age because i bought him and a female from someone else when my mallards were taking short trips to other places which ended up getting longer and longer till they never came back. How old is your drake and what breed. Just so you can be sure he is eating and drinking and can watch how he is doing.
i will try and get him to eat some of the duckling and hen food for now. They really need nourishment. Just trying to get by eating what they can find in your yard isn't going to keep them healthy. Even dog food is not formulated for ducks. So nutrients are off. Put out some duckling food. It will be good for him and the rest of your ducks. Dog food is okay as a treat my ducks love it. But it is only a treat, Pick him up and feel his breast bone is it sharp or can you feel it? the poor thing may be malnourished.
and messy featherssome visible skinand duckling like fur
ok so i was going to check if he was underweight using that link. but he wasn't in his bush in fact i couldn't find him after i took the first set of images i guess he didn't like i found his hiding spot and found a new one.Can you feed your dog where the ducks can't get to the food? If I left dog food out my ducks would only eat dog food they love it. Especially my Muscovy. Then again my dogs would eat duck chicken feed if they got the chance.
Might be able to find kiddy pools on sale now since most summer stuff is on sale.
i put a cup of feed in a pot put half a table spood and then put some warm water and put in a bowl along with a bowl of water but its been like 5 hours and i can see he didn't eatMaybe if you put the feed and water in actual bowls? To a cup of feed I'd put half a tablespoon of ACV in warm water. Tossing feed out on the ground and he doesn't eat it will draw predators and can mold. Then if he did decide to eat some moldy food is a killer.
in California it never gets very cold but sometimes it can but thats probably because we are all wimpy when it comes to cold.It may take him a while to try the feed don't give up on him. I assume your ducks are pets? and just like all other pets we have, they need the right nourishment to thrive and have long lives. So I hope you'll really try with your drake and any other ducks you have especially since we're going to be heading into winter one of these days and I don't know where you are but here in the Mountains of NC there sure isn't much foraging.
i only gave him the water melon this morningIf his only food was watermelon that is probably why watermelon is mainly water.
he no longer can eat dog food i will continue to give him the chicken food till it works but if he doesn't like it then i think he is going to eat every leaf he can reachYou need to put him somewhere were he has that food as his only option. He's not eating it because things like dog food, watermelon, and other unhealthy food are available. They taste better. Its kinda like telling a kid to eat broccoli, and then offering butter pasta when he doesn't eat it lol.
Hopefully we can get him on the road to recovery soon! You obviously care a lot about him, other poultry owners would likely just right it off as old age, and act like it wasn't their problem.
