Is this a bruise? Call duck egg day 25.

Aww, I’m so sorry that happened. It must have been really upsetting. Be comforted in the fact that you did everything you could to save them. Sorry for your loss. Glad the mallards are still alive . I’ve been through my fair share of predators as well. Had my 3 ducks killed by a raccoon while I was on vacation last year. Losing them was really hard since I had them for 5 years. Thankfully i had saved some of their egg in the fridge. Even though the eggs had been in there for 2 weeks I was able to get 3 to hatch. Those are the Pekins I have now. It’s like having a piece of my old ducks. :)
Thanks . Oh wow , I'm sorry that happened to you ! I hate it when I have to leave and I come back to some of my flock dead .thankfully this hasn't been regular but it's happened a couple times . Wow I'm Soo glad you were able to hatch some ! That's soo cool

No problem. Thanks. It was sad since I had them for that long. I was really happy to hatch out the ducklings because it took away some of the sadness for me. Yeah it’s awful, I rarely am able to leave home because of my flock. I think my friend was absolutely traumatized (she was pet sitting). She felt awful but it wasn’t her fault. Yeah it was a pretty unique experience, I was so amazed that the eggs were still viable in the first place.

I’m glad you found some of them! Sorry you can’t find the other one. Maybe it’ll show up, you never know. :)

The little guy is doing well this morning. He broke off some of the shell around his face all by himself! I candled and he’s absorbed even more of the veins. It is mostly clear now. I think he will be ready by today or tommorow morning but if not I will wait. I will go really slow too. :) I am going to remove a bit more around his face later. Being careful because of the cracking. He is pushing his bill really far out of the hole and peeping up a storm! :celebrate

Yeah baby ! Come on out we wanna see you !!!!

I have an update, I’m not home . My friend just went to check on him and he had moved his bill away from the hole so she opened up the egg more around his face so his bill remains in the hole. She was able to locate the bill and he is fine. There were no active veins there when she moistened afterwards and it didn’t bleed any. This is how he is sitting in the incubator right now. She said he is peeping and pushing on the shell a lot. She said he keeps rolling his egg over. If he does roll it will it hurt him? She said she’ll try to put something behind him so he doesn’t roll.
@shawluvsbirds how is he looking?

I would ask her if she's still there to remove this part of the shell over the head eye area, and moisten up all that membrane around the edges.
If the head area is free they can usually push themselves on out.
I think by now it should be out of the danger zone. It's probably about ready to pop out. by now if there is a little bit of unabsorbed yolk it should just be a matter of a bulging belly and not a whole bunch of it on the outside. If that makes any sense.
I don't think it will hurt him if it rolls the egg. Think about an egg being crammed underneath a hen with a bunch of other eggs and babies. They still manage to get out.
