Is your significant other supportive of your chicken hobby?

My boyfriend has his own coop and we are both super supportive of each others adventures no matter what they are. If he wants something bad enough, I help him figure out how to get it and vice versa. My ex-husband was very unsupportive of these types of adventures and I constantly reminded him that I wasn't asking for his permission.... I was asking for his support... there's a huge difference there. I am luckily with the right man now and we have so much fun with each other! We constantly talk about who's chickens are better

... He's had his ladies for 2 months and has only received a few eggs from them (we're working on that)... I had mine for a day and sent him a pic of my first egg... he called me a "one upper" hahaha

. We have so much fun teasing each other it's fun.

Good luck to those of you who have unsupportive mates.... that just stinks and takes the fun out of it

My hubby is overly supportive (is that even possible?!). He doesn't know as much as I do about the chickens, but he loves them all a bunch and is very much an enabler. I've hatched 25 of my own eggs, another dozen is scheduled to hatch today or tomorrow, and I'm collecting more eggs to set after this clutch is done. So far, I have collect about 2 dozen eggs for the next hatch... I take care of feeding and watering during the week and he will usually help me during the weekends, when he is off work. We are both about equal on the cuddling them, but I am in charge of all the hatchings. I'm trying to teach him how to do all of that, but it's taking some time.

Well, I am the husband and my wife is not as enthusiastic about our addition to the farm, but i work offshore and she takes care of them while i am gone 14 days, we have a young rabbit in the pen with them and they play together, he follows them into the coop at night,eats starter/grower rather than his own rabbit food, we have 19 Barred Rocks,not sure how many of each yet, also have 15 RSL and 5 Black Australorps, they are not together yet, and may never be together, she don't complain about any of them, or not as much as i did when she had to have 2 horse's that we never ride.just the money i have spent getting set up. Going to build an 8' x 12" chicken house next week when i get home. We were both raised around chickens and other farm animals and i can tell by our phone conversations that she enjoys them also.

I told my husband "I'll be the happiest wife EVER if we get ducks!" We did lots of research.... well mostly me, and we're getting them in a week or so. He and my son built the house this weekend, I helped a bit and painted it. He has done a ton of work on the fence where they will be on the side yard when they need to be locked up and he should be building the gate to keep them in. We are all super excited. Me the most, but my husband is too and are four year old is too. He goes in the duck house and pretends to be a duck! Just waiting for the call that the ducklings have hatched!!!!

It was my husband's idea. We honestly only went to Tractor Supply to buy red duct tape and came home with 6 chicks. lol He wanted ducks, but I thought it would be easier to build a chicken coop then to dig a pond in our back yard. lol Hubby set up what we used as our DIY brooder. Revamped the bigger one when they outgrew the first in a week and is now working on the chicken coop outdoors. He feeds and waters as much as I do, though mostly that is the kids job. .

@kocho Kiddie pools work fine for ducks. I love ours, but our chickens are just baby chicks right now and we got the ducks full grown so its not really a fair comparison. That being said we are getting baby ducks soon so I'll be able to make a better comparison through various ages as they both grow.

My fiancé was confused by my initial romance with our new pets, but he saw my happiness I guess and now we hav more than we shud for our suburban yard and he was the one who kept telling me bout rescues on gumtree! I like all the building and feeding and researching but I'm lucky he is involved in a lot of the nutrition as he gets scraps from work and helps me research wen we forget or unsure on wats toxic or poisonous
Funny too he gets weirded out if I joke bout eating any of our birds, I'm very lucky!

When we moved out into the country, hubby is the one who wanted chickens. I wanted no part of the "dirty, smelly things." Now it's 8 years later. We have about 60, almost all named. They are all my "children." We have a couple of housebroken chickens who come inside to visit and lay eggs, yes LAY EGGS in their special spot in the living room. At any given time, if you sit outside in the back yard, your lap will have a chicken in it. We actually still have one of our very first trio. Jack and Janet have since been lost, but Chrissie, our only little bantam is 8 years old and still faithfully laying eggs!

My husband was stand-offish at first, saying the birds were my babies...but now that we cut our flock down to 1/2 (sold our 5 ducks to a nice family from the BYC forums a couple of days ago), and only have the 5 pullets, my husband seems eager to get more chicks (like, maybe this weekend).

I've explained to him what little I understand about adding to the flock (and caring for young chicks), and told him it might get costly & will have to be done gradually...I guess we'll see how this weekend turns out. Might have some chicks...might not.

But we're DEFINITELY clipping wings this weekend. I am scared my tree-perching ladies are going to accidentally escape or get eaten.
