Taco was so sweet but that was when she was sick. But she always sat with us even before that. And yes Dolphin found a great flock and I check in and get updates and pictures here and there. I was so in love with his color and so sad when we realized he was a roo since we knew the Cochin was a roo early and decided to keep him So couldn't keep both.Wow!!! 1- what a cutie, slept on youand 2- that is a VERY attractive EE roo! I hope he found a perfect flock.
That must have been a really tough call to make. Such a fitting name for him, too. It's awesome that you still get to hear about how he's doing... may he father many baby dolphins!Taco was so sweet but that was when she was sick. But she always sat with us even before that. I have 18 chicks but this is the best close-up I have of some of my chicks. That's an EE in the center, supposed to be a pullet, as is the large light-colored one to the left of her. We got both pullet and cockerel Doms, and the one on the left looks male to me with that developing rose comb. I've been interested to note that the EE all have pretty significant tails while the Doms have little to no tail feathers.

Here is Gracie supervising one of the chicks' first outdoor outings. She enjoys guarding them. She's a Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog).
such a pretty egg!!!!!!!!! I got my 10th one from my EE today. Thought for sure my SF was going to lay one today too as she was in the box for about 45 min (I was spying with the camera). She came out and I couldn't see anything on the camera but sometimes it is hard to see the egg so went out to check and nothing.........It happened... AGAIN!
At 19 weeks and 6 days old, Moon, one of our EE's... laid her first egg! I was NOT expecting her to lay before our other EE because she had no separation, wasn't as red in the comb, no interest in going in the coop during the day/nest box inspection, etc... but she had other plans! Today she (out of nowhere) became very fussy and made her own impromptu nest in the coop. I spied on her like a total creep thru the Arlo camera... and 30 minutes later, out came a lovely blue-ish/teal egg! Here is the lovely lady and her pretty, tiny first eggView attachment 2834181View attachment 2834182View attachment 2834183View attachment 2834186View attachment 2834184
And for size reference... her egg next to Zoingo's egg from this morning!

9 eggs in 11 days... she's a trooper! Maybe your SF is just practicing... or maybe she will later in the day! Also, can we please talk about how chickens stand up like bears to lay their eggs? I had no idea until I saw Moon *actually* lay her egg this morning...such a pretty egg!!!!!!!!! I got my 10th one from my EE today. Thought for sure my SF was going to lay one today too as she was in the box for about 45 min (I was spying with the camera). She came out and I couldn't see anything on the camera but sometimes it is hard to see the egg so went out to check and nothing.........The only times I have caught her in the nest was shortly before she laid her first egg, and then about an hour after that first time which is when she laid her first egg. Guess today was a false alarm for her. hahaaa. So hopefully tomorrow she will give me her 3rd. But I have a full dozen eggs! (only took 18 days. hahaa but it was a full week from egg 1 to egg 2. since egg 2 she has only taken 2 days off and has laid 9 eggs counting egg 2. so 9 eggs in 11 days from my 1 girl. then my other girl has laid 2 since Sun so not too bad.
