Items stolen/Trespassing - Progress on our fence *pics post 91*

Beth that just sucks!!!! Sometimes people do watch people moving in and then break in when they are gone. Security system will keep the thugs away. And a big snarling Rottwiler...

I'm so sorry. I just read this. My heart goes out to you.
Yes, someone knew. That's my thoughts.
Do not allow them to put that fear in you.
How dare they come on your property and steal! How dare they!

you can get door and window alarms fairly cheep to fit the inside the door or window that will go off them the two parts are separated. Or you can do what my dad did when his ex girlfriend sent someone in to mess with his race car....hook up a hot wire to the door handle

I wanted to add too, neighbors can be your best defense. I live on a back road and everyone on this road knows each other, its the kind of place where you always instinctively look out the window when a car goes down the road and you remember a strange car. A neighbors storage building was broken in to recently, we all know she is a snow bird and still in Florida. One of the neighbors noticed it and when the police talked to us a couple of us pinpointed the truck that did it.

I once had someone repeatedly get into my house and mess with my things. peek in my windows at night, stand on my porch at midnight EVER BLASTED NIGHT, rummage through my underwear drawer again and again, leave the back door half open, scare the bajeezis out of my dog...

It made me flaming angry. FLAMING ANGRY.

never did find out who it was though. IT had to have been someone I knew, because when I moved the same thing happened again a few times.

My solution was a great dane.

Fence your property and get some big dogs to keep in it.

Thats what I would do.

I don't know if you own the land that you think they came in on, but if you do; I'd suggest putting down hidden nail strips when you are gone. If they come on your property again, they won't be getting far.

Sorry this happened to you. Some people just suck!

Thank you so much everyone! I really take comfort in your words and hugs and prayers! I'm so sorry to all of you who have experienced this yourselves - especially those who had someone break into your house. To the rest of you, I hope you never have to experience it.

Rufus, no, the sheriff's office didn't send anyone out to look at anything. They took all my info online. The serial number is in the system so that if anyone tries to sell it (although it will never be caught in most transactions) or pawn it, they should be able to catch it.

Intheswamp... love the sign! lol.

Tala... it's funny that you mentioned that! We actually discussed today wrapping a log chain around the shed and hooking it up to the electric fencer!

Jody, I think we are at least going to be moving the dog houses back there, although I was thinking today of building fence around the shed to serve as a kennel for them... then they can guard the shed. I don't know if we will do that, but it did cross my mind.

For anyone that feel like keeping an eye out for our stuff:
-2007 Yamaha Big Bear 400 4 wheeler (it is red, auto-clutch, 4x4)
-Husqvarna 365 professional series chain saw with a 20" bar (I think)
We live in Amsterdam, OH. Networks on Criaglist that are relatively close by are: Akron/Canton, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, Wheeling, WV, and Youngstown, OH. Thank you!

Here's a map I kind of just drew on in MSpaint. It's nor our whole property, but it shows the important things about the break in and the trespassing.

The dark red square is our house, the red square is the shed. The green line is the tire tracks we found from the truck. The blue dot is where we think they loaded our 4 wheeler in their truck. The nice neighbors (the ones we know so far... there are others we haven't met yet that I'm sure are nice, too) are marked and have a little heart on them. The nice neighbor with a yellow star is the one who saw and told us about the strange truck. The houses with a red X are the partier houses according to the neighbors. The yellow line coming through the neighbor's yard to the green line is where we saw 4 wheeler tracks (not our tread pattern) where someone has been riding on our property. The purple shows where I intend to put up woven wire fence. I will run my high tensile on the inside of this fence.

Today my buddy (a surveyor) came over and helped us locate the pins so we know where our property lines are. My little brother, my hubby and I also worked on running new electric to the shed so we can put a motion light out there (should be finished tomorrow). I'm also planning on running my electric fencer from the shed, since it will have power now. We are going to build the woven wire fence (at least at this point, that's what we're thinking) where it shows on the map. I want to clear out the little trees in the lot that the oil well road goes through so that it will not provide so much cover if anyone ever tries again. I figured it wouldn't hurt to run woven wire around that whole area - besides, then the goat wouldn't have to be tied out since I would have fence he would actually stay in. There will be a locked gate where the oil well road comes off the township road and where it leaves that small fenced area to go into the pasture area. I am still considering some kind of wildlife camera or security camera, but I spent enough today on the electrical stuff and we're going to have to buy a chainsaw soon (We need it for firewood and for clearing out that pasture), so that won't leave any extra - especially with putting up woven wire - it is expensive!!

Beth, I am so sorry that you have to go through this. I remember how happy and excited you were when you first moved into the house. Big

from down here to you. There have been some excellent suggestions given to you about ways to feel more secure.

You can get one of those motion detector cameras in either the Sporting Goods Dept. or the Photo/Electronics Dept. at WalMart.

You can post signs all around your property and let's hope the morons can read.

Unfortunately, these things are on the increase, as others have already said. However it is not all due to the economy, I believe. The crime rate is increasing, in great part due to illegal drugs. It takes around $30.00 to buy the supplies to make a meth lab.

One of the things about my pack of six MinPins, although they are small, if something or someone comes around the house they raise all kinds of noise. And if something stirs up the chickens(like one of the neighbors stupid cats, can we say Snack Time for the Kiddies?) then they want out that backdoor ASAP.

You may also have to train your dogs what the boundries are of your property and that they cannot leave it without you or your husband accompaning them. That way you won't have to kennel or chain them. Or get yourself another dog that you can take through guard dog training.

Hugs again!

Do you have any pictures of the items stolen? If so put ads up on craigslist letting people know they were stolen and not to buy them. Also contact your insurance company so they know if someone tries to put them on their policy or claim them they were stolen. Go down to the police department and have them make copies of your stolen items. Also if you got a description of the truck from your neighbor give the police that too. Hopefully this is an isolated incident and it won't happen again.
