I've soooo had it with Kitty! I don't want to do this but...

I am strongly against it most of the time, but you have already tried most things that will help or stop it. If it's a situation of last resort, then it's a consideration.

Just be sure to find someone that is good at it and only do the front paws. My older cat was declawed by her first owner - all four feet! She has a lot of troubles from it, but from what I can tell, it wasn't done well at all. I believe it causes her discomfort and she is very picky about litter - I think some litter hurts her.

She has no behavior issues as a result - she is actually a very sweet cat. Have no idea what she was like before the declawing. She does scratch like crazy - more than my cat with claws - but uses the scratchers.

Seriously, when Kitty became an orphan - her feral mama was hit by a car outside my workplace - I spent an entire workday trying to catch her. Finally I managed to grab her and she promptly took a chunk out of my thumb with her razor sharp milk teeth.

KiKi the siamese never gives us a bit of trouble.
 
I think in this case it is justified ! I had a cat ruin furniture and did the same thing. I tried, I even resorted to clipping his nails, all that did was make him more determined to sharpen them again

I'm able to trim my cats claws(with Bryan holding them..i let him get scratched..tee hee hee..), but it doesnt seem to help at all.... they just sharpen them back up on my couch.

I think we are going to be doing this also Kat... i have no other options either.
And like you, its a last ditch thing,.. because i WONT give the cats up...
I'm now paying for a brand new couch with scratch marks right on the TOP of the arm...where everyone can clearly see it.

Also..my other 3 cats are all de-clawed. And EVERY single cat i have ever had (besides the 3 that need it done now..) were de-clawed... not a single ONE ever turned into a biter cat... a cat that bites is a WHOLE 'nother issue that stems from how the cat was raised...feral cat/or played rough with../or let them play with hands as kittens.... etc..
Never , ever had a cat that bit because of declawing... so dont worry about that nonsense.

I agree with redhen. I have had cats bite for a whole host of reasons, none that included declawing them. Even had a cat that went a little nutty and started biting over a bladder infection. The biting stopped with the antibiotics for that.
