I've soooo had it with Kitty! I don't want to do this but...

I never used to declaw cats, until I had one that disemboweled anything upholstered, including the box springs! It was hard to believe that a little house cat could cause that much damage!

My parents started declawing after they had a cat that ripped up the solid wood furniture, and the walls.

None of the cats appeared to suffer, or had a personality change, or anything. My parents' cats are indoor-outdoor, and they cope fine. (They're just declawed in front.)

Thanks for the encouragement and tips y'all. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just be sure to tell your vet to only declaw the front paws!! some vets automatically declaw all 4 paws without asking!!

I have one kitty that I adopted from the humane society, and she was already declawed on her front paws, and she does fine, doesn't bite, acts like she still has paws

she scratches on the scratching post, on the walls, on the couch, so I don't think she even knows her claws are gone.

and I have another cat that isn't declawed and that buggar bites. HARD!

Good Luck! Hope all goes well.

I think it depends on how far back you do the declawing. behind the ears should do the trick.

I AM JUST KIDDING!!!!!!
really
seriously
just kidding...

Yes, front claws only. Our vet, we call her Dr. Bonnie, has two office cats that are the mellowest things. They are not fazed at all by the variety of animals brought into the clinic. Both are declawed, front paws only.

Now you sound like DH. He worked hard to earn the money for the new furniture, so he's not real happy with Kitty right now. Plus he's a country boy, grew up on this farm back when his parents forbid any animal to be in the house. He's got a whole gun cabinet of solutions. It's only his love for me and consideration for my feelings that is keeping Kitty alive at this point.

Well true to my prediction she started in on the new recliners last night; since she can't get to the couch - I covered it. Now the recliners are also covered in old blankets. All this new furniture and I have to hide it.

I called the vet this morning to get the cost. I have to wait until I can discuss it with DH as to when we can afford it. We had a $400 propane bill to pay this week.
