Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

not seeing movement I don't believe means that it is a quitter...Your so close to lockdown and at this stage it is so hard to see, several of mine from my first hatch didn't move at all and I worried they were dead.. I was wrong... Check it again before lockdown..  My motto is if it don't stink don't give up!!!  :hugs

So if it doesn't stink at day 18 lockdown, it won't be totally stinky in 3 days when I can't open it up to take it out? I want to leave it in there, but my last hatch I had one egg that got really stinky after about half the chicks had hatched so I left it stinking for 8 or so more hours and couldn't stand the smell in the house anymore so opened the bator even though 2 pipped chicks still hadn't hatched yet. (That hatch I didn't have a good candler though so couldn't really tell how long that stinker was festering.).

I'm not sure, hopefully someone else will chime in, as I said, I had several that under any other circumstance I would have given up as dead, no movement, had I tossed them for fear of a stinky egg I would have been short many chicks.. I personally would take the chance. I have quickly opened my incubator when I have had pipped eggs and it didn't effect them at all, Mind you, I'm not recommending it, just saying....

Movement can be extremely hard to see those last few days. If it doesn't stink & the air cell looks good with no liquid visible in it then you should be fine. Even if the chick has died it still takes several days for it to begin to decompose. That decomposition will become obvious first around the air cell.

Looks like gold in hackles & tail so she would be considered a dark partridge.

Yes he is but i didnt know shes was a dark partridge. The breeder i bought her off of said she was partridge. She is dark and gold so i guess she is. Wow you learn something new everyday. Thanks for that! If i cross her with a light splash silkie rooster will the offspring come out as splash or anywhere near there?

That all depends on what hidden genes she may be carrying. It takes a combination of genes to get different colors. She is obviously carrying a gene for black, so crossing her with a splash could give you blue. She will likely throw a couple different colors of babies. She may even throw blue partridge with a splash roo.

Wow i would really want some blue silkies

Well still nothing today -
So I am pretty sure this is another bum run.
DH "found" the secondry Humidity and Temp gages finally! lol And guess what the Temp and Humidity levels are spot on though I thought the eggs felt colder then before?
We Float tested this am. - There was No movement at all.
We are leaving them a few more days just to be certain. But there is little hope and I know that now. I don;t understand - if I followed all instructions to the letter
Turned them 3 times a day. Did not get them posted! THe temp and Humidity is spot on -
THEN WHY AM I LOOKING AT EGGS??????????
Unless the ROo boy is firing blanks.?????? Will check his other eggs I have for cooking and see if they are fertile? Darn SIL gave me some the other day.

can help me figure it out lol. Not sure what all the abbreviations stand for on the eggs.[/COLOR]

I can't really read the eggs when I blow that up...But I recognize the eggs lol.

The sp means split SILKIED ameraucana ( NOT silkie crosses) gene carrying
OE sp = OLive egger split silkied ameraucana ( hatch 50 % silkied
Blue laced red Wyandotte= BLRW
RIR/sp= baby carries the silkied gene but will look smooth until bred to another silkied bird or split
EE= Easter egger
Am= lav/ black ameraucana pure
Bm= blue maran babies will be black copper blue copper or splash or straight blue ( I have a pure blue in this pen)
SBEL = super blue egg layer
S= silkie
C= bantam Cochins
I= iowacanas ( what we call an Iowa blue ameraucana cross)

I think that's all I have except if you got an EE egg that is a black am roo over a silver penciled brahma girl or a gold laced Wyandotte
Oh the silkied roo over the RIR is blue :D

If they weren't fertile they would be clear.... I'm so sorry, after my last disastrous hatch I know exactly how you feel!
