Janoel Incubation Experience

Your poult looks female to me, but I've only raised a few, so it's just a guess.

It will be a staggered hatch... set some about 18 days ago, the a few here and there. Will move them into the RCOM for hatching.

We are really contemplating ducks. I keep seeing photos and longing. Even my hubby is taling about it. I sold some chicks to a woman who has duck eggs we could get...sigh.My hubby and I think they are so cute.

He suddenly got it in his head to get 75 turkeys! I said no this year. Maybe next year when we figure out a butchering facility and the regs on selling them!

Hatching right now. Pulled some blood rings out, but the temp is steady and the chicks are vigorous in the Janoel. I lowered my temps and I am now taking 21 days to hatch. I believe the slow cook will make better chicks!

Can't wait to see your baby peas. How fun is that!?

I think ducks are the most adorable. But be warned, they are also the messiest! Especially as babies. They throw water everywhere! And poop factories, let me tell you! Inside brooding with them was a chore, but now that they are outside, it's a breeze. Oh and they grow so much faster than chicks too. But the fun and satisfaction has been worth it for me. Love my duckies.

Get some geese! We got a pair from Metzer and they are wonderful. The little honkers are so friendly and want to chat with you whenever you're around.

My husband doesn't like chickens, but really seems to like the goslings. He even goes out of his way to pick fresh grass for them, lol. Now he's planning on building them a moveable pen to put in the "backyard" aka the small grassy area between the house and the pasture.

Had my first peachicks of the year hatch a few days ago, and now there are another four due on Friday. All incubated in the Janoel, hatched in the RCOM.

Hey guys! It`s been a while since I have been able to get on here. Busy time on the farm right now, my social life and social web life have been put on the back burner for a while.

Naragansett turkey update:

Starting with 30 eggs, I removed 3 bacteria rings. Dropped one candelling and took out 4 clears.

So I went out the morning of lockdown (2 days ago) and to my surprise I already had 2 pips! The 2 pips were eggs sitting in the front of the Janoel. I checked the temps all around the incubator and found this area to be a bit of a hot spot.

Both hatched a few hours later. I am on day 28 now and I am starting to get some more pips and a bunch of eggs rolling around.

Congrats Wildfire!!! Their so cute.... we need more at our house lol.

So i finally have a problem...i mean besides hatching to many eggs lol.

After almost 6 months of continuous running my janoel heating element seems to be overheating and starting to melt the plastic i moved all the eggs to the cabinet hatcher 2 days ago. I need to plug in the janoel and see if it is a problem with the thermostat, the fan, or the probe...i think it is the fan because i have not heard it turning and it does not seem to be dispersing the heat anymore.

Basically no air movement means the element is staying on at full bore almost constantly hence over heating....i also noticed the fan had gotten a bit louder about 2 weeks ago so all this leads me to believe it is simply the fan giving out which may be as simple as a melted wire. I came home friday night to my incubator reading 38.6 i opened it fast and got the heat down but the only really hot part was the lid so again it leads me the believe its the fans. I will take apart the lid when i get home and inspect things. If all else fails i will put an aftermarket fan in as everything else is still working properly.

Yes, welcome back Wildfire! Baby chicks are very cute, but something out those little turkeys just warms my heart!

So misfit, can you just disconnect the fan? Or are you saying you think it will overheat without the fan? But that would make me think thermostat... Whatever you determine, I think replacement parts are readily available, and fairly cheap. That reminds me, I meant to order a replacement heating element...
