Woohoo!!!!

I have another week for the Auburns.

I just counted again.

Got another white one!!!! sure hope these are girls as I already have a gorgeous white roo from my 09 hatch.
There are a few more black with auburn that just hatched also.

I just moved all the fluffy ones to the brooder, and there are still 3-4 that are working on zipping, and a couple obvious pips in the incubator.
I cannot wait until morning to see what else pops out. There were 9 Delawares that have also hatched in this batch.

Wahoo!!!

I'll try to take some pics in the morning.

I am getting ten Mottled Javas from my nephew, he ordered them from Ideal then decided he wanted to get rid of them because he wants to consentrate on his other breeds for now and get pens built for them right now.
I know these birds are not up to standard but look like they may be okay. Some of them have more white than others and some are nearly solid black.
Question: Will breeding these create solid black Javas and more Mottled Javas?

I just got off the phone with Duane Urch, a great breeder in Owatonna. He was one of the few who had breeding stock in the early 1990s when people realized this breed was on the brink of extinction. Duane told me that my Java chicks are hatching and I should come tomorrow to pick them up. I'm so excited!

I will post pictures as soon as I get them into the brooder.

Oh, my. Ready or not, I'm getting into chicken!

Congrats on starting with great stock. Duane is the one who provided Garfield Farms with their stock to work with. The DNA tests they did proved them to be from the original strains. The quality of his birds are the finest available....way to go.

I love JAVAS. I have 17 Black Javas that are 5 months old that i bought from Duane Urch.

Won't be long now and they will be laying. Keep us posted how they do. How is the ratio of cockerals and pullets?

Here's a picture of just two of my 21 Javas from Duane Urch. They are active, curious chicks. We're having great fun and consider ourselves lucky to have such precious birds.
