Jersey Giants From A Hatchery?

The JGs I got from Ideal and Privett were disappointing. Never made much size.

The birds I got from Sandhill were pretty nice for the size they made but probably wouldn't win a show. Still, I was happy with them.

Seriously, good show/breeder quality JG's aren't that expensive. . . Wynette here on BYC has eggs available from some very nice Jersey Giants, and they get HUGE. Hers are Blue, Black, and Splash. (Hatcheries don't even offer those colors - except black)

echoinghills from Ohio also has BJGs. I had gotten hatching eggs from her this summer. Vey nice lady, good hatching rate.

I had gotten a BJG *pullet* this spring that turned out to be a roo. I gave him away when he was about 5 mos old. He was up to the middle of my thigh when I gave him away. Sadly he died a couple of mos after I gave him away. The lady said she had lost 8 other chickens and her neighbor had lost 6. If I would have kept him, he would still be alive

She said she thought he had equine encepholitis (sp?). Can chickens get a HORSE disease? I think he came from MT Healthy hatchery.
