July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

When can I take them outdoors ?
It's warm here during the days can I take them outside for a few hours to let them explore in an enclosed space ? Or even just get some sun

I'm adding some flowers and maybe some grass from the garden to the brooder tonight and maybe some toys

I want to enrich their brooder environment

My chicks from TSC I bought yesterday (hatched this week) are brooding outside. I use the mama heating pad method and they’re super content. These babies I hatch will go out with them as soon as they’re fluffed

Yeah, as warm as it is, they can be outside as long as the temp is suitable, or they have some heat source for when it is cooler. They should be fine as long as you keep track of their comfort level.
ETA: My babies will be going outside to brood when the new babies hatch, I'm only keeping them inside to give them maximum snuggle time and a chance to get used to being handled.

Thank you for the respond
It's 25-30 degree here during the day
I'm gonna take them out on the hot days n give them a spot with shade just in case they are too hot

Oops....just totally "accidentally" ordered another dozen eggs from Gypsy Hen. Got 6 Self Blue Ameraucanas and 6 Blue/Black Birchen Marans. My 6 yr old daughter is SOOOO excited for some lavender babies! She already has naming rights for 2. I told her I'm naming the rest tho. Her first suggestion was Fluffy...🙄 They're shipping out Monday so I don't have to freak out all weekend again, and should be here by Wednesday, I think. I hope they fit in the incubator...hmm....may have to do some stuffing I think, lol. Dang. I think I totally got hatching fever again. Now all I need are some Bielefelders and my chicken collection will be complete! Will probably order those after all these guys have hatched. Whooo! Babies everywhere! Hubby's gonna kill me, lol.
Where can I order for gypsy Hen?

It's a wrap here
I turned off the incubator today after took out the last two sticky chicks ( I washed them and left them there to dry )
Finally count is
4 RIR out of 12set (10 fertile, 8 went into lockdown)
10 barn yard mix out of 17 set ( 16 fertile, 15 went into lockdown )
This is my first and last hatch of the year. I decided not to do another one but to focus on raising those babies :)

Here are some pictures of the babies
Oh they are so pretty!
Congratulations

She's got several varieties of bantam and LF Ameraucanas, Silver Double Laced Barnevelders, OEs, Wheaten and Birchen Marans. And she's got great customer service. Very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be ordering more from her in the future!

No, unfortunately I don't. Also, I found out last night that my friend who lives just a couple houses down is on the same transformer, so if it blows again my plan of using her electric while ours is out isn't gonna work. But let's just hope that doesn't happen again before I'm able to acquire an alternate power source for emergencies.
Yes, hopefully not! I have a sort of make shift solution to plug the incubator in on a long extension lead from my car in an emergency but it's not ideal. Hopefully I'll never have to use it.
