July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

I just did my records paperwork and put the eggs into the incubator but I'm not turning them on until tomorrow morning.

I'm trying to select all Australorp eggs -- I haven't had any luck getting splash from my Blue Australorps yet. Lots of blues and a few blacks, but no splash so far.

I really want a good splash male for my next step breeding.

Hope you get some splash this go round!

Set 14 more Silkie eggs last Thursday, here day 3 1/2 they’re all developing nicely!
Expected hatch date July 7.

And the silkies will probably all be black or blue because my rooster is black.

I have 2 Silkie chicks in the brooder that I hatched a few weeks ago. (1 black and 1 blue)

What breeds do you have in your barnyard mixes? It’s also really fun to hatch eggs from chicks you have raised, it is kind of like being chicken grandparents!

I should have candled last night but I was busy moving boys to Camp Cockerel.

I did look at one egg because my grandchildren were here for a little while and I was able to show them the veins and the baby chick moving inside the egg.

Yes! I feel like a “legit” chicken keeper hatching from my own birds.

Just got confirmation that I'll be able to pick up a dozen each of bbs ameraucana, bbs wheaten ameraucana, and silver ameraucana eggs (plus maybe a few extras!!) from a nearby breeder on Saturday. Gonna set them either Saturday night or Sunday morning for a July 16/17th hatch date! So glad I don't have to keep living vicariously thru all you guys! I'm soooo eggcited!!!
