So far three babies have hatched! These two actually came to the front to say hi! All a bunch of Golden fluffballs which means the comets were their mamas. So cute! I’m antsy to see if any other (cross) breeds hatch but I have work today so I can’t stay and tell.

Oh I did...but it needed a whole Lotta help and I have my 3 yr old nn 1 yr old grandsons today. So not sure if it will make it or not but it's drying so we'll see.
It's not my place to make a suggestion, but maybe you could treat it like a science lesson for the grandkids if you need to help it again. I'm just a chicken lover.

So the 6 babies that hatched first have been moved over to the new hatched baby brooder. This is a very small brooder that I use to teach them how to eat and drink and stay under the heat. Once I’m confident they can figure this out they go to a bigger area if they haven’t already been sold by then. For size reference to how tiny these little ones are at hatch they are sitting on a paper dessert plate.😊
4 are still drying off in the incubator and 2 are still working on hatching.
Other news, my second July hatch, which are due on July 15, look great here on day 13!View attachment 3177161View attachment 3177162View attachment 3177160View attachment 3177158View attachment 3177157
OMGeeze they are so perfect and floofy!!!

It's also why we need things like hatchalongs....for us crazy people who need someone with the same kind of crazy (cheeping at eggs, cooing at them like mama hens, candling in the middle of the night, etc.) to make us feel like we arent as crazy, lol. I love this place! ❤
That is soooo true! Because my husband definitely doesn't understand :lau

Yeah I fi
To answer your question @Gammas Bearded Babies , when I got home last night I candled the eggs that had not pipped yet just to see if they had internally pipped or not. I am very comfortable doing this and can do it very quickly. If I am all at in doubt if they are DIS, I put them back in the incubator and let them be, but sometimes it’s pretty obvious. The one DIS I removed had completely filled out the egg, there was no air cell to speak of. This was a pullet egg, a little bit smaller than the others. I expect the chick was too large and was unable to hatch. Another reason not to hatch pullet eggs, though the second egg from this pullet hatched just fine. Unfortunately I don’t know which one it is because I did not see them hatch! Just saw the eggshell. I mark all my eggs with weights and dates and initial of the hen that laid it, if I know.
Yeah I figured you prob were asleep after working so much so I did...not good results.

The 3 yr old has seen several hatches and was very intrigued and cheering the baby on!
1 yr old more of a "scream" interpreted let me see! Lol

@Poodlemum I'm sorry you've had more clears! I'm up too...not cuz more chicks have hatched but back pain! Hope you got to go back to sleep!
Eventually, but it triggered a delightful migraine. Meds are sort of kicking in 🤞🏼 So much to do today and I don’t have time for this 😒 I’m sorry about your back!

In some ways, I’m not too worried about the clears. The only one I’m sad about was our Jersey Giant. She’s such a sweetie and our other one died, but finding more locally hasn’t happened. My favourite egg colours are developing 🎉 The heavy bloom green is super exciting

I gave in & let mine keep 2. Today is day 21. I found 1 chick dis (well have the shell but completely intact membrane) yesterday. I told hubs if this other one doesn’t hatch we need to grab her a few day olds from tsc
It would be easier for me to risk bought chicks I think, I won’t if we still have any

I have a few pages of reading to catch up on this thread but I wanted to update.

The Silverudd’s in the incubator passed away yesterday. I was rooting for it but it just wasn’t meant to be. 😔

On a happier note my Hoover’s Hatchery delivery arrived. All 10 chicks are alive and active. I got this mix in hopes of a white egg layer. It looks like almost all the chicks, 8/10, are chipmunk colored. This means a best guess either Brown leghorns, Cinnamon Queens, or both. So much for my idea of holding back a white chick and reselling the others immediately. 🤣 Now I need to spend some time sorting out who’s who before I can move the bulk of them. I think I spy two slightly different chipmunk patterns/colors.
