July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Well, the high today is 97*!!! It's gonna be really hot the next couple days. I'm hoping they'll be OK and not start and stop incubation or something on their way here. I may go ahead and put them in the bator when they get home if they're already too warm. Gonna have to wait and see. Just wait to turn them for a bit at first? Idk. I've never had shipped eggs before...always avoid it if possible.

Shipped eggs are tricky. I’ve had quite a few (hundreds) shipped eggs from many sources. I still feel like I’m getting it wrong most of the time. Just so many variables to account for.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of humidity is everyone working with? Do you prefer to do a dry hatch, or not? I've always done more traditional higher humidity with my hatches, mostly because I live in quite a humid place and doing a low humidity hatch just isn't really feasible for me, but I'm wondering what everyone else does, and how well it works for you. Humidity here in the summer stays between at least 60-75% most of the time, so I just do what works best for my climate. As far as I know, I don't think I could even accomplish the lower humidities for a dry hatch.
ETA: I usually keep mine at about 40-45% for incubation, then up it to 65-70% for lockdown and hatching.

Then when it runs dry, it’ll drop to less than 20%, I leave it there for a day before refilling. That seems to get the average I’m looking for. 40-45% regularly is an excellent starting point for humidity.

Well, that's reassuring....I'm sure I'll be freaking out pretty constantly til I'm able to candle and see development. Until then, I'll be a nervous wreck, lol. I just can't wait til they get here and I can inspect them and get em cookin!

Yeah, I suppose if that works for you, that's what you should do. I would be lost trying to incubate somewhere with low humidity. I'm not good at keeping up with adding water, so my poor babies would probably shrivel up in their shells. Luckily, I almost never have to add any here, lol.

Well my accountability partners weren't able to keep me in check...so here I am with 18 in the incubator due to hatch July 6th!
I candled em yesterday and 14 out of 18 are doing well. 3 are no development or infertile and 1 possible blood ring.
Here's a pic if yall could take a look and let me know your thoughts.
