July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

So, an update after pondering the situation for a spell....I had all the eggs sitting upright in the egg turner for the last 24 hrs. Decided to remove the turner and hand turn all the eggs with decent air cells and put the other 12 in an egg carton air cell up. At what point can I expect to see them reattach if they do? And is there a safe time window to start turning the scary ones? I read about 48 hrs, does that sound right? Or should I wait and see if they reattach before starting to turn them?
I set mine in the incubator and under my hen as normal. I thought the fully detached one had zero chance. it was turning from day 1. That one hatched fine. then I had a saddled one under my hen. that one internally pipped in the right spot. looked to be in the correct position, fully absorbed the yolk and veins but never externally pipped and it was DIS by the time I figured it was even close to 24 hrs. :(

I can't remember what day the fully detached one attached, it was saddled the whole time but he hatched perfectly fine with no help from me. Only thing I did was position the air cell facing up when I put him in lockdown.

The 4 eggs I took out were all early quitters that probably could have been pulled last week, but being inexperienced I'm a little paranoid about reacting too soon and killing a live chick.
I am the same way. even with "clears" I think maybe I missed something. I left one that I was 99% sure was a quitter but didn't dare pull it in case I was wrong.

it was fully detached. I almost didn't set it. It did end up attaching at some point but I just put it in the incubator like normal and let it do its thing since I figured it had zero chance anyways. once it attached it was quit saddled. But yes it floated from bottom to top of the egg. wasn't bubbly though I did have one of those and that didn't develop.
That's amazing! Just shows its always worth a the chance.

I third that...that's why I candled once and just give the occasional sniff, I just don't feel confident knowing exactly what I'm seeing, and despite really wanting to candle like a junkie ;) I've just decided as long as nothing is seeping or smells foul, I'm leaving them be

Oh I still candle often and I have thrown out many between day 7 and 10, but I am always nervous to. I do check them though and haven't been wrong yet. If I am unsure I leave it. Or should say not 100% confident it is clear or dead/ a quitter....

Are these saddled or fully detached? Fully detached to me means they roll to the top however the egg is tilted. Either way I’m happy they’re developing for you.
Didn't roll completely to the top but moved half way up the egg. So not fully dettached. Sorry bout that...didn't realize it could be that dettached!

Picked up a few more eggs yesterday (204 miles round trip). Brought home White Bresse, Light Brahma, Lavendar Silkie, Mille Fleur d'Uccle, and last but not least, Easter Egger x BCM. These will be the last hatch for the year...maybe. 😁

1 day down and what feels like a million to go. haahaa at least not long till I candle for the first time which I am excited and soooooo scared for since m hatch rates have been horrible so I end up seeing NOTHING (the last batch of 18 none developed from the shipped eggs.... I did add in my own 2 and 1 of those did. the first shipped batch (with 3 of my own mixed in) was much better with 5/11 showing something early on, but 4 were broken so if you add those it was 5/15 then 1 quit around day 5-7, 1 around day 10)..... and I had a couple batches of my own eggs before then that never developed due to fluffy butts so poor fertilization....... So now I am a bit scared anytime I candle thinking I will see nothing yet still so excited to look in hopes of seeing something.....

remind me on Thurs (day 3) when I check that it is still early so I may not see anything. LOL
