July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
This one doesn’t look like it’s developed as much as it should be at DAY 15.
I stopped turning my next set of eggs here last Sunday on day 16 as I was going to be gone for three days. One of them looked really under developed and not quite right thought it was still moving. I elected to remove it and not risk it exploding while I was gone. I’ve seen this before and they have never made it in my experience. I felt bad taking it out of the incubator when it was still alive but I felt I really didn’t have a choice under the circumstances.
I would recommend hanging onto this one until day 18 at lock down and then reevaluating it then.🙂
That is 2 different eggs. So the first pic? That one has a really bad saddled cell so has had me worried for a while, but figured as long as it was willing to fight and grow I would give it the chance.

I am going to take out the turner on Thurs, day 17 and weigh and mark air cells. So far they have all lost the right amount of weight even the ones that have bigger saddled cells

Day 13 candling eggs, 3/3 developing. I did lose the fourth- it was a dud & just never developed at all. shame because that was the most important- but excited to see how these three final eggs hatch.

Yeah that's tough with you have to be gone for few days.

We have a second pip! Also not at at the air cell. 😬 Any suggestions as to why they are pipping the wrong spot? Or what to do different for my next hatch so that doesn't happen?
I've only ever done one hatch before this one and I had 5 out of the 13 eggs that made it to lockdown pip in the wrong spot. I learned it's because the chicks were malpositioned. I did a lot of troubleshooting to try to find out why it had happened to so many of them and I found this information useful.

Apologies, I thought it was two different photos of the same egg. Was not clear in the post. By all means keep the saddled one going! I’ve had saddled eggs hatch successfully many times.😊

I do so hope they make it!!! 🤞🤞🤞🤞

None of the Marans or Legbar eggs I received last month hatched. But then, they sat at a terminal mid point for two days before moving on and were finally delivered to the house in a dented box...after receiving strict instructions to keep at the local office where I would pick up, vs bouncing all over our pot hole riddled countryside. The "hold" instructions with my phone number were in thick 2" high lettering on the outside of the box right near the address label they couldn't miss it. The eggs were all pretty scrambled by the time they arrived, so I wasn't surprised when none hatched. No fun dropping $160 without getting so much as a single chick. I don't blame the seller as she did all she could to ensure their safe arrival, but in saying that, I won't buy from anyone else who insists on using FedEx. I've not had a problem with USPS, even back when they had all their shortages...but FedEx is another story all together.
Omigosh, I would just lose it if I didn't get a single chick! That would be terrible. I'm so sorry that happened to you. Hopefully the same doesn't happen here and I at least get a few babies. I NEED Ameraucanas in my life again! I miss having them so much! Fingers crossed I manage to get a few out of this batch. If not, I guess I'll just have to order more...I don't care what it takes, I'm gonna have these birds, one way or another, lol. Let's go babies! Don't make me spend a fortune, please!

This is my dry hatch range and we’ve had amazing results, it’s so simple and I’m lazy lol
That's what I'm trying to aim for but I can't get my humidity down. It's mostly staying in the mid 40s despite no water and a dehumidifier in the room. I've read that silica gel can help. Do you think it's worth putting some in?

I'm on day 7 now and have just candled and weighed my eggs. The average weight loss is spot on but the individual eggs vary a lot. Some have lost more and some a lot less than the target for day 7. I'm not sure if I need to change anything or not.

Out of my 21 eggs I have one empty and one a bit iffy (possibly a red ring beginning) but the other 19 look to be developing well.
