July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

I'm just starting day 20 as I type. I have 10 pips but only 4 of them are in the air cell. So that's 6 malpositioned so far! One of them has hit a blood vessel but it's still alive so hopefully it will be ok. I can see some beak movement under the pip.

I'm still waiting for 8 more pips and I'm really, really hoping there aren't any more malpositions!

Yeah that's a lot of malpositions. Hopefully lil one stays strong and others do well too!

Sorry, no, I didn't even think to take photos when I candles them. I used a Little Giant Styrofoam incubator and my humidity during incubation fluctuated between 25 and 45% and anywhere between 65% and 81% during lockdown. And sorry it's taken so long to reply as I've been a bit under the weather for the past few days...but much better now, nearly back to 100%. 🙂
No worries. I'm glad you're feeling better. :)

I had one keet hatch yesterday, one day late, and the other two have just finished internally pipping. Behind in development. Temperature fluctuations. I'll post pictures soon. :D

I ended up with 7 Dominique puffballs. Going to hatch another round of them next month, before the summer is out.

Oh man, I’m so sorry! Our neighbours set off a huge set of fireworks (not just the cheapy store, the real deal) and the poor dog is now suddenly terrified of them. We’ve been up with her all night having the stress poops 😒 If you’re anywhere near Cache Valley, I’m planning on hatching olive eggers before fall and don’t mind raising them to coop ready
That’s very kind of you to offer! I’m at the south end of Utah County. I haven’t figured out if I’ll do another one. I know the breeder has changed their pens already. After their Silverudd’s rooster tested O/O for egg color.
I might just hatch my own next year.
I have a few combinations that should make some nice Olive eggers. What are you using for yours?

I like to hatch before fall too, It is the smarter thing to do.

8- 4 blue and 4 spotted brown on day 20 peeping, but no pips yet.
They may hatch tomorrow or Thurs. My shipped chicks should come tomorrow.
When everyone is here, I may put them in a pen with my tiny polish. ( would supervise of course.) I also have a broody hens, so we will see.

The polish that I am thinking of putting with the chicks is tiny and gets bumped about by larger chicks. That are her age. She is very gentle. (I have not had that lamp on in a long time, just too lazy to take it down.)

Definitely a bit of a drive! We’ve got BCM and Welsummer over WTB, so guaranteed olive. So far fertility is looking great, but I haven’t had time to hatch them out yet or see the actual egg colour. Obviously I’ll do that before selling! What combos do you have? 👀

Pullets; BCM, Silverudd’s, Cream Legbars, and Easter Eggers.
Roosters: BCM and Cream Legbar.
There are a few directions I could go once I know egg color of the individual birds.

I’d love a WTB someday. They’re already on my wish list.
