Thanks!Awe! Congratulations!
Now how many are in this hatch?
Not a bad hatch! I'm really sorry for the two DIS.Thanks!
4 haved hatch, now 3 more are hatching. The one that I thought was DIS definitely is and the one that was shadowing is also DIS, so these were removed. I always open the egg shell a bit and poke the poor little thing with the back of a pencil to make sure it really is dead.
I had nine eggs go to lockdown so looks like 7/9.View attachment 3206167
Only one Paint this time, others are either black or blue hard to tell yet.![]()
I have some mixed Silkie eggs on the August hatch along, just six of them though. Chicks will be 75% Silkie and 25% Ameraucana. Was a spontaneous decision after I regretted selling the hen that laid them. Not a bad hatch! I'm really sorry for the two DIS.
You got anymore hatches or is this it for a while?
Oh I can't wait to see those!!! I just added Ameraucanas to my list for future babies!I have some mixed Silkie eggs on the August hatch along, just six of them though. Chicks will be 75% Silkie and 25% Ameraucana. Was a spontaneous decision after I regretted selling the hen that laid them.
Not planning more after that for awhile.

Awe I am so sorry! I know just how ya feel...it's awful to give it ALL you got and then realize they aren't gonna make it.Bad news everyone....Little Anastasia didn't make it. She had started pooing on herself and I finally realized she couldn't bend one of her legs (it would bend, I just don't think she could control it), and she started to go downhill a bit. So, I made the decision to cull her. It was very sad and we (DH and DD) had a little funeral in the backyard for her. Poor little baby. I really tried my best. I've never tried so hard to save a chick and I'm really bummed she didn't make it. It's ok though...still got 2 Lavenders and 1 Split, so I should be able to make more beautiful babies in the future (unless they're all pullets or all cockerels, in which case I'll cry). Total of 11 from this hatch and 14 from my first hatch, so I just added 25 beautiful birds to my flock! Still a pretty good end result, I think.
Yeah, he's actually the one that dispatched her. Normally I can do it but I was too upset this time so he handled it, bless him. It was a sad night. My daughter gave the eulogy (she's 6). It was sweet. The cats came to watch and pay their respects. She had a good send off.Awe I am so sorry! I know just how ya feel...it's awful to give it ALL you got and then realize they aren't gonna make it.
I'm glad your DH joined in and helped you. That always makes things better!
Surrogate, she is white Leghorn (last of my chickens I thought would go broody) and we have no rooster so we got 8 eggs from our neighbor who has barnyard mixes and 6 were fertileCongratulations they are such pretty colors! Good lil moma!!! She THE moma or the surrogate?
