July Hatch-a-Long (including 4th of July hatch-a-long)

Birchen marans for my friend went into lockdown yesterday. I put in a divider and added my 2 Opal Legbar eggs and 3 Birchen Marans eggs today - hoping chicks were just resting as I only saw movement in 2 of the eggs when I candled before locking them down.

I also candled:
Silkies - They are on day 14 and 5 of them are growing really well. The 6th egg is a patched egg and the chick inside is so small compared to the other 5...looks more day 10 size, but it is still moving around. It was odd
Welsummers - Still too dark and speckly to really see anything at day 7....just crossing my fingers they are developing.
Call Ducks - They are on day 7. Pulled a clear and pretty sure I have 2 early quitters. 1 egg that I am pretty sure is a quitter, you can very clearly see the developing duckling, but there are absolutely no veins showing in the egg.
Bresse - These eggs are only on day 6, but the shell is light enough that I should be able to see veining. These are the eggs that made it to Nebraska and then detoured to Arizona. Out of 6....4 clears and 2 Blood rings. Waiting for pics to upload to the computer so that I can fill out a claim on them with USPS.

CCL's and Double Laced Blue Barnevelders have been shipped. Hoping they get here by Friday.

They do look very similar! I have been talking to the ebay seller about them as I had told them that I would get back in touch with them after I could tell gender to see if the auto sexing trait of the Sapphire Gem would follow through after crossing with a Lavender Orpington. The seller thought it was more strange that I ended up with 3 solid black chicks out of that cross than my odd ball chick not matching the others - They apparently have not hatched out any black chicks from the Sapphire Gem cross. The seller flat out told me that my odd ball chick is a Sapphire Gem hen....but Sapphire Gem chickens don't have crests. They also informed me that they do have Sapphire Olive Eggers in a pen far away from the Sapphire Gems....these have crests, but lay green eggs....this one hatched out of a brown egg. So it has me all confused. LOL!

Wow!! A true mystery chick! Can't wait to see how s/he turns out! Seems like seller has a sneaky roo or... Is confused. Lol

why did you mess with her to begin with? You have a bator if she doesn’t want to sit. I honestly pulled all my eggs from the broodies at day 7 and gave them all freshly hatched chicks. I cheated. I hatched the rest of the eggs in the bator then sold them.

Only since my previous post which was apparently less than an hour ago

I was freaking out thinking it’d been like 2 or 3. Whoops.

Seems like forever ago lmao

But she doesn’t seem to be rushing back so

I’m gonna try locking her in there and hoping she settles down. She’s out in the yard atm.

She couldn't wait to get away from me fast enough.

But she was so devoted before I’m hoping she’ll go back.

I was trying g to give her water and she wasn’t having it so I tried a different container (still now) then I spilled some and took some wet shavings out and added some more from another bin while trying not to touch her but then I wanted to see how many eggs I had under her (again. Did that earlier too) and then she didn’t like that and took off

I think she’s like “screw you Mom!”

Chicks might be a good idea but so hard to get them now and I want Jack babies LOL
