Woke up & have 6 silkies & 2 Faverolles

I’ve read anywhere between an hour to 36 which calms my nerves quite a bit. Hopefully they don’t hatch today though because that would mean something is probably wrong since it’s only day 19. We have five pips that I can tell so far and I’m hearing a lot of chirping. Also, the little Fayoumi mix is really going at it, I saw the egg rocking a few minutes ago and it has the largest pip .

Bantams frequently hatch early but I always have 1 overachiever in a group who hatches on day 19 lol

Look what I found in the hen house this morning.

This one looks a lot like the Welsummer X SLW cross that hatched on Thursday.

Bantams frequently hatch early but I always have 1 overachiever in a group who hatches on day 19 lol

They’re not bantams though unless Fayoumis are counted as bantam. They’re all barnyard mixes with the rooster either being Speckled Sussex or Speckled Sussex/Buckeye.

Made a big mistake this morning, was candling eggs and had a fertile pile and an infertile pile, must have put one in the wrong pile. I cracked it open and there was a little embryo inside it I feel really bad! I think i need to double check my eggs before chucking them now!

I am one day before lock down and my eggs started twitching last night which was still day 16. From what I understand the chicks are positioning themselves for hatching. I went ahead and stopped my turner this morning so the chicks can do their thing. I read that turning isn't as important after day 14 so hopefully this is helpful to them, not hurtful. I will candle, mark air cells and bump up the humidity tomorrow.
