June hatch-a-long!

Pics
The remaining three had died. One shrink wrapped really early and had prominent veins, another just kinda died and was sloshing around and the last one was rotten. I had barely gotten a tiny hole in it when I smelled it so they immediately went to the trashcan outside :sick. I have eight happy little fuzzbutts though and it’s a lot better than I was thinking I would have there for a while.

Congratulations on the ones that hatched successfully!

So looks like the final count will be 17 ducklings, 10 Faverolles & 13 silkies lol

I had my first hatch last night around 3am, which counts as day 19 for me. I happened to get up and this is what I found, a little early bird EE. Now there are a total of 7 hatched, 6 pipped and 6 unknowns.

It's been a little stressful keeping the humidity around 70. Sometimes it's been low and membranes were drying out so I was moistening them through the air vent. Then it got too high and the floor got wet so I had to remove the sponge and suck out some water. At one point the older chicks started going nuts, getting tangled in the incubator wiring and trying to squeeze through the divider. So I moved them to their MHP and I haven't seen them since. They are under there somewhere but are very quiet now.

So we decided to spend the day with my sister who lives two hours away and we’re on our way back only to find out that someone hit an electrical pole by my house. The road is shut down and power is out. We’re still a good hour away and don’t know when the road will be open or when the accident even happened.

How long can chicks, who are three days old at most, go without a heat lamp? It’s been 90 something degrees all day but it’s storming prettt good so the temperature dropped significantly.

Providing there's not a draft, they should be ok for a few hours.

It was messy but one of the three that made it to lock down has hatched with some help. It didn’t pip into the air sac, it pipped straight out, malposisitioned so couldn’t zip we let it try for 48hours from pip but nothing.

Think one of the others in lock down is a late quitter the other I’m holding out hope for so this little one has a friend otherwise off to grab a day old tomorrow.
