It seems to be trying to crawl away from the shell/I absorbed yolk... husband saw it just wok me up

Oh my, that's more than the cord. Put the babies bum back in the shell and sit it upright in something, a small cup, yogurt cup, coffee mug, to give it more time to absorb. Also look at the assisted hatching link that LilyD shared. It will have images and a better description of what I'm trying to say.

It looks like the whole yolk hasn’t been absorbed! I am considering assisting two that seem like the membrane had dried too much but I didn’t do anything to this little one except turn it right side up, a chick had rolled it. Could it have been a double yolker that the second chick didn’t develop on? Chick looks small but is otherwise normal

Yeah that's a lot of yolk baby was a little to quick to leave home. I would put back in the bottom shell and in a dixie cup with a paper towel in the bottom and leave him there until he absorbs all his yolk.

It's possible, that would be a first for me! You can tell if the chick absorbed a yolk because it's little belly will be distended.

It doesn't look like there are any blood vessels on the membrane behind it's head maybe I can actually pull the head backwards out of the membrane instead of trying to dig deeper for the beak? What do you think?

It hasn’t absorbed its yolk yet, I could tell when I went to put it in cup, we got a cup top around it... it wouldn’t fit with the shell and chick. I don’t know why this one decided to come out early... everyone else was good.

Oh. Gosh. This thread makes me wonder how any chicks survive in the wild!
