JUNE - JULY HATCH-ALONG!!!!!!!

These are the ones from yesterday. She brought them out this morning. Of the 6 eggs she had, three are alive. One that was hatched enough to have it's bill out unfortunately didn't make it out. The other egg as well didn't hatch. I'm pretty bummed. They were both fully formed ducklings. Hopefully my hatch with the incubator goes well.

Awwww, that sucks that they got so close!!!! Do you think they dried out? What a bummer to make it so far and not the rest of the way!!! Pics of mom and babies are wonderful though. A real mix of happy and sad there...

Thank you. She seems to be doing a great job so far.
The thirds umbilicus is drying out nicely. I put a splint of sorts on to try and straighten out it's leg and foot.

The duck I helped out this morning is doing great, but has pieces of shell stuck to him. I'm assuming that this won't hurt the duck. Let me know if I am wrong.

I don't know about the other two eggs currently unhatched in the lock-down incubator. I candled them real quick, but didn't see much movement if at all. They are dated 6/7/19 and were placed in the lock-down with the others on 7/1/19. I put them back in, just in case, but I'm not real optimistic.

The other eggs in the regular incubator seem to be hanging on although the temp is now all over the place. I guess this might be due to the fact there are less eggs inside now? Eitherway I have to adjust the temp up and down based on which direction the egg turner is facing. This means that for the last three days I have been getting up from sleep every hour changing the temp and going back to sleep. Rinse and repeat. I'm so overly tired. One egg looks real close to internally pipping though. It is supposed to go in today, so I will put it in just as soon as I put the three hatched birds into their brooder later tonight.

Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty!!! We were just talking about what to put in an incubator that is not full and so fluctuating in temps... Rocks and grocery store eggs were two ideas, but would need to be prewarmed... Are your other eggs far enough along that you could just turn off your turner? That might help with the fluctuations as well...

Guinea cam pic of the day! I moved the camera, which gives me a better view of older nests but puts the camera back into a mix of light and dark so that the nests are in shadows... Caught a quick glimpse of what could have been a pipped egg... or not! Interpreting the shadows in this camera are like reading tea leaves!

Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty!!! We were just talking about what to put in an incubator that is not full and so fluctuating in temps... They may have. One of the shells was mostly off. I'm pretty upset. Have such a great development rate for shipped eggs just to have three die like that. I'm going to be doing safety holes in the incubator eggs I think just in case. I was going to sell those, but with only three of the other eggs hatching I may raise them all up to pick the best of them for showing and breeding.

I’m sure that I saw some duck diapers somewhere! You could have ducky sitting on your lap while you and hubby watch tv!
