Just Recieved 200 Chicks from Mt Healthy Hatchery

I also ordered Ameraucanas from Mt. Healthy in Oct. They are EEs and the discription in the catalog states that they are Easter Eggers. I ordered 25 got 26 healthy and beautifully colored birds. My understanding is that EE are mutts. Am I correct on this?

caponize? I guess I am sounding like a newbie again. The only reason I ever castrated an animal was to keep the little barker from being killed by our Alpha-dog. Then we just put a calf castration ring on him and let nature take its course. I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to do a chicken.

Good luck:clap:)

There are numerous threads on the subject, but Araucanas are extremely rare and are usually rumpless. No hatchery that I know of has Araucanas. hinkjc here breeds them, though.

Ameraucanas are a different breed with a certain standard. Easter Eggers are sometimes bred from those or some bird that carries the blue egg gene, they have no certain standard and can lay any color egg, but usually, they lay greenish eggs and most of the time have muffs and beards like Amerauanas. Ameraucanas lay eggs only in the blue family, though some color lines are still a work in progress. So, really, think of them as three different breeds. Hatcheries confuse the issue and refuse to change.

Anyway, we don't want to really get off on that tangent here on our new member's thread. Getting 200 chicks at once is certainly quite an undertaking! That picture looks like a chick stampede!
