Are you sure your turner is turning them?

I don't think I understand how eggs are turned when they are laying down.

I was worried about that too cause it’s supposed to turn them 6 times a day and it seems to be working and they’re always in different positions or like twisted sideways when I check it but I’ve watched it turn them and they like barely move, it just moves the tray, and also they never seem to like totally flip over. Like have the number move or whatever

Yeah I figured they were probably goners. :hit

So the first one is also bad?
From that picture above I would say yes but you may be able to see something I can't in the photo.
Leave the ones you aren't sure about.
Ditch all of the ones that look like 3&4 asap.
You do not want to leave dead or dying stuff in your incubator.

Go to bed.
Tomorrow take a picture for me please....of the eggs in the bator...they way they are right now.

One of the reasons I do candle every day is so I can see, daily, what's going on and know exactly (close enough) as to when one quits so I can try to figure out what happened that day that might have caused the quit...if it was a bator issue.

But I watch my bator like a hawk and keep track of everything.

I think some of them work with rollers so the eggs sort of spin in slow motion.

I agree. I see more early and later embryo deaths with higher temps. Next year if I let any hens hatch eggs it will not happen in July or early August. Hatch rates are just too low with really hot temps.

And Yep, never saw that many losses with temporary drops in temps. Broody hens have figured that out.

I candle more frequently than recommended for the same reason, both with my Brinsea and with my broody hens. Last season I lost most of my embryos around day 15 and I believe due to high temps.

So far nobody has yelled TURN OUT THE BLEEPIN LIGHT! so until they do I'll carry on.

:barnie:barnie

Now I wish I had candled more! I was trying to be good and not mess with them too much so I didn’t screw up but it kinda turned into not candling them at all.

And yes spinning is a good word for it! They do seem to spin at least ha

That one was hard to take a picture of, I could see it better in person, but I also don’t know anything about it so to me it looked fine :lau although it did look a bit behind. Like it hasn’t developed much more since the last time I candled.

And okay will do!! Good call!! I’ll do that in the morning. I was hoping I was wrong and maybe they were fine but seems not. :hit

Figured as much with the blood and so little development.

Just sucks.

Go to bed.

Okay I will. Thanks.

Your incubator isn't a still air model is it? That might account for the hot spots you're seeing.

Nah it has a fan but it’s right in the center kinda blowing down so who knows how well it works haha

It’s the IncuView from Incubator Warehouse.

I'm familiar with that model. I actually considered it when I decided to get a 'bator. My Brinsea echo mini works on the same principal but I wanted a manual turner on it so I could be in charge of when they were turned and how often. @Kiki I think we are both hands on hatchers.

Kelsey I usually candle the first time around day 4. Until then I usually can't see much going on. Then while I don't candle daily, I do candle about every three days. When I have eggs in the Brinsea, I position them during lock down so their air cell end rests against the cover. That way I can continue to candle through the dome. I follow the same regiment when hatching with a broody. They get sick of me stealing eggs out from under them to check them.

As for temp variations my factory thermometer reads about a half a degree warmer than my little digital thermometer/hydrometer in the bottom of the incubator near the eggs. I had to turn the thermostat down once as it spiked (briefly) to about 101 once. Now in spite of the difference, my eggs always hatch on day 21.

That makes sense!! This one you can change the settings to what you want. I have it set to turn 6 times a day but you can set it lower if you want. I think 6 is the highest it goes. I would have gotten a Brinsea but they’re so expensive and then I was between this one and the Hovabator but I liked the plastic cause I figured it was easier to clean but maybe I should have gone with a Hovabator.

And thanks! That makes sense! I think I need to be more hands on next hatch. Or maybe just use a broody haha

And thanks! That makes sense. I have to set mine to 2 degrees lower (97.5) to get it to read right on the other thermometers. And shoot the one corner has gotten to 101 and I think even 102 before, several times, but it never lasts long and always goes back down so I didn’t worry too much especially since the other side was cooler but maybe I should have. Maybe I killed the eggs :hit
