Chicken on the hill's remarks about chickens and snow reminded me of my first group of chickens. Some bantam Dark Brahma's. I let them out into about 3 inches of snow for their first experience with snow and the first hen flew out of the coop, hit the snow squaked and half flew/ran a big semi circle inorder to get back into the coop as soon as possible. The rest of the flock were after her and had stopped at the coop door and blocked her entrance. They didn't like the looks of the new stuff either. After they figured out that it wasn't going to eat them, they calmed down and took a few bites out of the snow to see what it was.
But that initial rapid exit from the coop hitting the snow and the flappin of the wings, squawking and panic ed look and rapid retreat was memerable.
