We lose hens to red tail hawks when the hens are out from under the netting. We have the fake owls scattered around our backyard and CD's glued to parts of the roof & hanging in our 2 trees. We live in a busy neighborhood, with a major highway and large retail area nearby; woods behind our home. The only thing we have found to work is to stretch the bird netting over most of our backyard. We hate the hawks and know we cannot eliminate them so we do our best to protect our little flock. When you go into our backyard you have to bend over to walk! We made 8 foot tall makeshift poles to hold up the netting in the middle but it is still an effort to use the backyard now. But we LOVE our birds! Who needs a back yard for humans anyway? When we entertain or cookout, its always in the front yard now. Birds really change your life.
