Do people ever eat Cassowaries?

Oooh, good question! And what would they taste like? Chicken? Or more like duck or seagull? I rank seagull right up there with raccoons for edibility. Squirrel and pigeon aren’t too bad though, even city ones, but just so small it’s hardly worth the effort unless you’re really hungry. With pigeon being way easier to catch.

I'm glad you showed this. Your incubator looks very much like mine that I've been afraid to use since it is so small. Mine can hold 7 eggs. Is this the first time you have hatched with this?

Yes it was! I have to say it did work rather well. Mine has an auto egg turner, which is nice.

The first egg started to hatch on day 21 with the rest on day 22 and 23. It's was very easy to clean after the hatching too.

ok, you guys might like to rethink the whole eating cassowary thing. According to the Korowai people of Papua, New Guinea, young cassowary tastes almost exactly like human flesh. The eggs are eaten but the flesh is considered a prized delicacy. Here: http://www.amazingaustralia.com.au/animals/cassowary.htm
says the flavour is very strong & can make people dizzy. I'm not tempted.

They're kinda shy unless threatened. Then they are really mean & dangerous.

So, maybe you could hang a sign on the fence to your yard that say's "No Trespassing! Look out for Big Bird!"?

Well, I could...but they're a tropical rainforest bird & live a lot further north than I do.
