Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

And today we have rain... buckets and buckets of rain. It started last night as light showers, eased up some then this morning it came back with a vengeance. The chickens are not pleased. The coop building and third Meat tractors have been put on hold. I am just as “happy” about this weather as my chickens are, but at least my garden bed is getting watered on the neighbor’s property. With the weather, I am actually quite glad that I didn’t get my meat Tractor finished yesterday, because it would be an awful time to put chickens outside for their first night! I just have to think that it’s good for the grass!

One con to shaving your head... it’s chilly at first, the other big concern is sunburning it. I only went down to a 3 on the clippers so I wouldn’t need to worry about the latter, but this weather had me scrambling for a toque (beanie in American, and I don’t know what they are called in Aussie speak. :p) before heading out for the chicken chores! So yes, I did it... And I’m very happy with the results.

As you can see, Yesterday sunburning was a concern! Funniest thing is, it upset the Chickens terribly... clearly they are much more visual in identifying people than cows or cats and dogs. And it took me a while to realize that they were alarming at me! They seem to have settled into an acceptance of this change today!
Love the hair! I got mine cut off short a few weeks ago and can't wait to grow the rest of the colour out and then grow long grey hair like my nana used to have.

Beanie is the Australian too :)

It is...kinda.....feels cool(in the other way too)I have hard time keeping my hands off it for the first few days.

I’ve noticed that’s a fairly common thing, and that it seems to effect others around me too! Probably because when I do take it all off it’s usually a fairly dramatic change, but for the first few weeks at work everyone strangely wanted to rub my head, and it kind of made me sympathize with all the pregnant co-workers I’ve had that were fed up with people wanting to touch their bellies. We were a strange workplace all said. There was also the day that a bunch of us randomly shaved or partially shaved their heads in the women’s bathroom at work... that was an entertaining day (I didn’t participate then, I was still toogreen to trust that management wouldn’t take exception to it)

Poor chooks not recognizing you 🤣. I expect they warmed right back up to you when the food appeared! (We call them beanies over here too)

but for the first few weeks at work everyone strangely wanted to rub my head,
They are all just jealous that they aren't brave enough to 'take it all off' :gig
ESS.... Exposed Scalp Syndrome.

I was wondering Kris, did you buzz your own head or have help?

I went from a *down past my bum to a pixie cut* after the twins were born ~ mostly because I couldn't cope with 2 pairs of little hands winding their fingers in my hair constantly! It was quite the shock. I hadn't been short since I was a small child. I hated having to go to the hairdresser all the time but like Nancy I have really, really fine hair that won't hold a curl [flat hair follicles does it apparently] & growing it out again was an absolute pain. I was constantly getting mouthfuls of hair because it's so fly~away. YD did me a couple of rats tails & I was considering going for the full dreadlock look but ...fine hair. It breaks off & then I just look peculiar & my hair is all uneven.
