Dayum!!
How old were they?
Congrats!!

Thanks! They are 5 weeks old, mostly because the family taking them has been hosting guests the last week (2/3 of the kids are visiting) and they needed to get their coop refitted. They are family friends and I offered a pullet promise because they are in the “town” area of the island so Roosters wouldn’t be a good fit. I’m 75% sure they took girls, one is a tad questionable... but I’m pretty sure it’s a “she”

So I was wrong on the crop issue... I carefully read through an article by twocrows, and several threads and checked her multiple times throughout the day, it’s not an impacted crop as I originally thought, it is a “doughy” crop... which seems like it might be more difficult to treat... one step at a time!

I also spent the day ripping out and replacing our sink in the trailer. Here are a few pics of what I was up to between recycling and dinner, in addition to the chicken crop massaging and all that other normal stuffs. 1/3 of the way through the reinstall... the sink the trailer came with barely fit my plates! And I hardly lost any counter space... most of it was to the right which wasn’t useable anyway!

Tomorrow I tackle hooking up the faucet and drain pipes, trying to make the stuff Andrew picked up on the way home work with what is there. The drain to sink connections need to move back 4-6” and the right basin is not as deep as the main one... of course the whole assembly is glued together solid, so I don’t know exactly how I’m going to make it all fit, I said 1 1/2” elbows and a Y. I got a random assortment of 1 1/4” straight pieces, a p trap and such, so this is going to be a challenge!

Oh, gosh! I think I've seen all the plumbing I can stand for a while. Most of our bathroom is still exposed. :(

I love projects like this. Taxes your creativity. Patience has always been my weakness. Best of luck to you.

Just keep the end goal in mind... how much better it will be when done. Think about the tile, cabinets, and how good the new shower will be! We had an old bedsheet for a bathroom wall for almost a week during our house bathroom renovation, the wall was between our roommates bedroom and the bathroom. So a midnight bathroom visit would light up his “wall” and there was no sound barrier (it’s ok, I can hear snoring... if I go really quietly and leave the lights out I might not wake him) I don’t miss those days either, but the end result was worth every day of it. And we had seven years of a beautiful functional bathroom afterwards.

Personally I don’t “do” plumbing. I detest it, nothing ever lines up and it usually leaks on me, but putting in the decent sink is going to be a big bonus for winter, (I suppose this means I’m resigning myself to another winter in the trailer?) as having to drive all our dishes down to the farm to wash them gets a little challenging. I’m also attempting to clean our potable water tanks. We have had three boil water advisory notices, with the e-coli and fecal coliform bacteria being way too high for safety. Of course because we don’t get the notice until after the water is in our tank it basically just stays contaminated. So I have a tank full of bleach anyway, and can’t use my water until it gets rinsed.

My girl with the crop issues is doing much better this morning. I’m really confused as to what it might have been (impacted? Doughy?, I know it’s not sour) if it’s cleared up... I have her isolated in the barn (will I ever get the barn cleared of sick chickens??? It feels endless with these girls) her crop cleared overnight, and she is much more perky, she still looks so ratty though... maybe it’s a molt, even though I don’t see any new feathers coming in? I’m going to keep checking on her every couple of hours today... so far it looks like she might be the non-laying chicken who was in with Chickie Hawk. I’ve suspected that for a while.

I’m thinking about transitioning to more free Ranging in the future, Sammy and his girls spend most of the day out of the Hospital tractor, as it’s way too small for healthy active chickens, and they have been doing well despite the girls frantically chasing me every time I go outside and trying to follow me into the trailer. I do believe they have figured out where the tasty meal worms live! I’m going to need to start building out more housing again, another constant in growing my flock, I suppose, especially with the pullet chicks coming up for next years layers, and another batch going into the incubator!

We've lived without internal doors for forever; Some walls never got finished; dust drifts from the ceiling because the cornices never went up [Dh broke his back in the middle of this building project so not his fault stuff never got finished; we lost everything overnight basically~ income, builder...I was DH's carer so unable to work either & we had a houseful of small kiddies to top it off. I can cope with most things but water issues drive me nuts. Without water everything becomes so much harder. Besides, plumbing is just plain ugly! I admire you for persevering ~ & it will be so much better when you are done. My son arrived some time last night so...:fl

I am going to assume more free ranging means you can run more chickens [insurance issues aside] & if you can keep up with the tractor builds...? I must say, it's never dull @ your place!:D

It might make sense to let them free range during the day. What is your daytime predator situation like?
