.... yours look better quality.. as in, their lacing. Claire has the most beautiful shape of all my chickens... she is a big gal.. not fat...and lays a very large egg!

I think Claire is gorgeous! She has a beautiful body shape, and the picture is really flattering to her. I wonder about how wide my girls are, though I’m not familiar with the SOP for the breed, they are from a good breeder. Out of 7 chickens (4 I hatched out of 8 eggs, and 3 chicks) I only got the two girls! And one lays the smallest egg. Hers is top left, Mrs Marans is right and the giant egg on the bottom is from the Red rescue Farm chickens.

That little egg is all yolk! The yolks are the same size when I crack them open...

Today was moving day for my Red Ranger chicks... they are adjusting to grass and outside quite well.

I wonder about that pale one staring right at the phone though, no feathers at all really! I think maybe that was one of the CornishX birds that the other farmer ordered which got mixed up with mine?

This is a handsome little guy/girl

I leg banded them as we moved them, the ones I’m fairly certain are girls and I definitely want to keep got purple, the “I’m pretty sure this is a girl that I might want to keep” got white (as did the big pale featherless one, I think it might be female) and the I can’t tell if this is a girl, but if it is I definitely want to keep it got green. I don’t think putting red or pink bands on them is a great idea, so I went with what I had, and I’m going to hope their legs don’t get too much larger!

The day started out overcast, but is now clearing up a bit... and I’m about ready for a nap! Yesterday Andrew and I both fell asleep mid 2nd TV episode, shortly after dinner. I think it was during Magnum, but I’m not sure. My mother actually had to wake us up before she left so we could shut the TV and inverter down. It was a little after 7:30! Quite embarrassing, as normal she’s the one who nods off during the last episode of the evening.

Might just be a genetic thing, it's showing more cornish than the others?
Not a 'pure' CX tho with the color he is.

I meant the one in the first picture... I just realized it’s a little unclear there!

I don’t know the exact parentage of my Rangers... and the ones I kept all looked basically the same as chicks, this one just doesn’t have any feathers except for the wing primaries and secondaries coming in. They also shorted her two CX for sure, so she took two of the Rangers to fill out her half of the order. I haven’t seen her chicks since they were 1 week old, so I’m not sure what they look like.

Wow. They are all lovely. Signed, Chicken Addict. It's all John can do to wait till it's dark before he hits the sack.:lau He doesn't feel so bad in winter; it gets dark earlier.

Yep! I was just lucky the birds were all up for the night. I was really quiet locking them in, because it was still light enough out I was worried they might decide to come out and see what I was doing! It has happened before...

At the moment I have a curtain hanging to stop the drafts. I tie it back during the day so after I drop it my only concern is it's a lot darker inside the coop than it is outside so my girls are used to my arriving with a torch after dark & fiddling round. The 1st time heads pop up all over the place because everyone is still settling down but when I go out just before I head to bed nearly everyone is sleeping. I have a couple of ADD chooks who never seem to sleep & think it's time for an evening chat!
