we are in a highly selenium deficient area... the sheep need supplements, which we couldn’t get this year, or wormer, or the standard vaccinations.
Stupid changes to veterinary medicine regulations, it seems like they are designed to drive small family farms out of business!
I do understand wanting to prevent resistances due to unnecessary prophylactic medication of animals. But when there are NO large animal vets or vets that will handle livestock animals of even the “pet goat” variety in the area what are the farmers supposed to do? Vet won’t travel for a full day (or two, for return!) to make a farm visit and we can’t drive every sick animal for a full day up to his office, when appointments need to be booked in advance.
