Large Fowl Crele Project...

Yes, Bart Nagel from Ontario has them and sells eggs ... he has the single combed variety instead of the turkey headed that are on the picture. His name here on BYC is the same.
Shipping from Canada to the US has some regulations that make it frustrating and expensive to ship to the US. You can carry them over the border but mailing hatching eggs requires a vet check on the premises of origin and signed documents.
We discussed the expense df shipping a minimum of two dozen eggs and it was going to be about $400 which included documents, inspection and fees. A dozen hatching eggs is $50.

Sure wish I had a friend in Canada who could get them and then connect here in the states.
Hi Nankat,
Yes, regulations are much easier if they are eggs instead of birds. And easier if you use a land crossing instead of water (boat/ferry) or air crossing. What you need is a partner in the US right by the border. Then the eggs can be brought across and hatched at their place. They get 1/4 of the chicks (or a trio, whichever is smaller) for their service and you get 3/4 for your work in setting up the whole thing. Nice thing is, you gte a breeding partner too.
Best,
Karen

Here is the source my Canadian frien found: http://www.bulbsoffire.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47&Itemid=48

The issue involves her buying eggs (she is in BC) and then she goes shopping in Washington (as she usually does) and so on and so on and ho-de-do-de-doh~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you click the link above, and select Malines Fowl, then look at the photos.........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Looks so much like a Silver Cuckoo to me............what do you guys think ?
These birds do not look like the ones in NanaKat's poster on the previous page..............no feathered shanks, and not nearly as thick a type....IDK that I would purchase them.

Yes, Bart's birds are not the turkey headed ones in my poster, but they are Meschels/Malines. I would love to work out something to get these magnificent birds back in the States. The site you have linked is the gentleman I have been emailing with about eggs.

To me, the single combed birds could look too much like a cuckoo marans cull but maybe it's just me. The turkey headed birds look great still!
I was thinking the same thing.................and me with all these Silver Cuckoo marans running around.
I do like the turkey headed.......to me, it sets the breed apart from other breeds altogether !

I am almost ready.................to start breeding 1) a Crele X Black Copper Marans Cockerel............who is crele and has a more vivid coloration than the Crele Chantcler...................(who was his father)

and 2) the Crele Chantecler to the R/C LBLs.............maybe try a few DBLs also just to check the coloration on chicks.
The DBLs have a black breast, so?????

What a quiz, huh ?

whats a DBLs

the issue I'm seeing with ER/eb males(eb from chantecler and ER from BCM) is that they are not trully Crele, the males have black wing triangle, Creles do have colored wing triangles making them barred duckwing patterned instead of barred birchen patterned

Both DBL & LBLs...this is dark Brown Leghorns & Light Brown Leghorns, both are rose comb.
The R/C variety was advised as the Crele sports have a pea comb, so to correct that we need a R/C to try to make a cushion.
The leghorns should solidify (if that is the correct word) the crele to breed true.
The white earlobes will have to get bred out.
The crele sport bred to the black copper marans, also has a pea comb, but I may just stay there for now.
I am not too happy about the smaller size of both the leghorns & their white eggs...............but quite a few have told me this is the way to go to correct the combs & make the crele breed true.
It is all I can do to think lately~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

been sick so I am not doing to much other than letting the birds grow out.
