Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

J, OMG I am so sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you can sooner or later catch the predator that killed you Peanut. Predator seem to come out of the walls when you have nesting mothers to either get the eggs or the goose. I hate predators why do they not stick with the wild life on raiding nest!!!!! No, they have to get our lovely geese and eggs........

I'm glad to hear that. Sorry that you can't replace all of those eggs. How long will it take your girls to lay the number of eggs that you would like to try again?

I was afraid of that. I am so upset about what has happened!!!

And there is really nothing that can compensate that loss of eggs.:( :hugs I am truly heartbroken.

What a strange group you have there kg, no wonder your geese look possessed they have no idea what they are. JK of course ...Congrats on all the new family members.

When I went to horse pasture to feed this morning, I saw one of my white African girls was not in group. So, knowing she shares a nest with my broody brown African, Peanut, I headed over to make sure she was there. Sure enough, my white African was there..... but it was not a pretty sight. Sometime last night, a mink (I think) killed Peanut. Snow must have gone to nest this morning to lay her scheduled egg and found Peanut. She stayed on nest, trying to protect Peanut's dead body and the eggs. I forced her off and destroyed the remains of the nest and a trap is now there in its place.

Peanut was one of my favorites and I worried sick about her brooding in the pasture. She had less than a week left before her eggs would have hatched (a few are in my bator now). RIP pretty girl.

KG .. I was setting goose eggs every week... and the last of the Sepastopols eggs were in there. I have One dewlap (who have not been fertile) and one Embden girl still laying. Thats it for the geese.

Thanks, guys! It was my 1st goose loss of any kind and I am very heartbroken. I just bought a whole fish to cut in half and use as bait in two traps. I will do what I can to kill that horrible mink. I am extremely grateful to already have one of Peanut's babies (who is my foster gander's absolute favorite baby) and 4 more hopeful eggs left in bator staggered somewhere between days 14-24.

RiverGoddess, I am speechless looking at your pics. Those babies are absolutely beautiful!! OMG !!!!!!!!! I am in heaven looking at those pics. I love them!

Thx !! I am a picture whore

But they also come from beautiful parents too! The ducklings are ones that I hatch from auction, so they are a grab bag of mysteries. It is fun to hatch them out because they are like a box of chocolates! I did however hatch some Rouens & Pekin Rouen crosses. I hope to keep the drakes for my freezer & the hens I will breed to my Welsh Harlequin Drake to produce the ultimate Eater Duck !

That must be sooo disappointing. At least you had some in the hatcher, though.

I'm glad you have some of Peanut's babies.

I have such a hard time believing that such a small animal can kill a goose. They must be vicious. Hope you catch it.
