i've sorted mine, i'm kinda stumped really, i had a kinda crappy hatch not quite sure why either... I set 34 eggs? and had 19 hatch (1 died before drying off, had a broken exposed yolk, and 1 is looking like it might keel over, very dark belly). so i have 17 healthy chicks... I lost almost half my eggs?!
4 were pulled early for no growth, and i think 2 more from early death (bloodrings)... When i candled prior to lock down, i had suspicions that there were 4 or so that had just died for what ever reason... the rest died at assorted stages.. some didn't pip in the the egg and were positioned wrong (not worried about that it usually happens to a couple it seams), a couple pipped the wrong end and then died, some piped inside the shell but stopped there, others pipped the shell and did nothing more, and a couple died mid zip... Never had that kind of result before to be honest i've always had great hatches.
So now i'm left trying to figure out what went wrong. I hatched and incubated them in my hatcher, modified hovabator with a fan added in. Day 16 there was a 2 or 3 hour power outage, but there was a blanket holding the heat in... i didn't think it would affect too much that late in the game, i've had others not even be affected. at hatch somehow the fan got turned off, the temp stayed correct, but there was no air circulation.....
Should either of those factors have caused this kind of loss? They were all my eggs, nothing shipped this time.
any thoughts?
