I made a batch of these yesterday, but I tweaked it a bit. Cut the sugar to 1/2 cup, cut the butter to 1/2 cup, used whole wheat flour, all purpose flour, high gluten flour, malted wheat flakes and 9 grain flour from King Arthur Flour, and they are just fabulous. This recipe really is great for just about any type of mix of flour you want to use.

The first time I made them I failed,I just used them for sloppy joes and my daycares kids loved them!
Our chickens had a feast! I soaked them in leftover bacon grease and milk...they thought it was Thanksgiving already
My yeast was brand new. I bought yesterday morning, right before I started the recipe. I think our house was too cold for it to rise. I just turned on the heat this morning for the first time, maybe that will help it all rise.
I must say, it was SO EASY with the dough hook! Hopefully I get better results today!
Heat your oven up just a teensy bit and put them in there to rise. Just put it on low for about 5 mins while you are mixing, then turn it off. It should rise in an hour. If you're using whole grain flour, add some wheat gluten to it.
