Lock down humidity help

I can't see in the hole - the membrane is in the way. If I take the paper wad out, I fear the egg will roll and the pip hole will rotate down to the bottom which is what was happening this morning. It rotated twice which is why I put the paper was in there. Should I take the egg out and tear the membrane so I can see the beak?

I could see the beak with the prior chick, chick # 2.

Has the last egg pipped?

Tough call. Depends on activity, and how brown the membrane looks. Kind of a judgement call at this point, gotta go with your gut. Sorry.

No, the last chick hasn't pipped yet.  I was surprised that this one pipped.  Was thinking we weren't going to get the last two to hatch.

I'm about to head to bed. If it gets brownish, I'd probably at least check it out, maybe moisten the membrane with a dab of vaseline, but if you can keep it active, that may not be necessary.

Good luck!

I just saw the egg move a bit. My gut is telling me to leave it alone. Do you have a picture of brown membrane? I am an artist and what is brown to some might be a tan yellow to me. I'm not sure the membrane is brown by looking at my egg. It seems like a medium value tan than brown.

Sure appreciate your time and input.

Sleep well.

Back to share a pic of my chicks....

The big ones with a few feathers are from LFS. The little fluffies are mostly SFH and a couple of EE. They are 2-3 days old. So, I had 11 out of 17 hatch and gave 4 to my broody.

That seems like a good hatch for the first time, to me.

Question.... Wednesday was day 21. I have 5 eggs with no signs of pip... how long do I wait to do an eggtopsy? So this evening will end day 24 with my last ones hatching on day 22.

Thanks for all the help!

So precious! :love And that's a great first hatch!! I'd say you are safe to call it quits on the others. Rule of thumb is 48 hours from first hatch (not pip) to last hatch. By breed and same set times, of course. Candle and then knock a small hole in the air cell first. Tap and listen. If no signs of life, carefully remove the shell of the air cell, and feel the membrane for movement. It is possible to still break in and find a live one. Been there.
