Lockdown- Silkie Eggs in Genesis 1588

So happy you have 2 that hatched~ they are so cute. I’m curious what color they are. They don’t look like my splash chick and look more like a partridge but maybe it’s because they are so new.
I have a breeder in VA that ships day old silkie chicks if you are interested in getting more. It’s supposed to be very cold this week in VA so I don’t think she wants to ship this week... She also ships hatching eggs if you want to go that route again lol.
Please keep us updated:)

I'll just do what I normally do to hatch. If your electric goes out again on you, have a large towel or blanket handy so that you can quickly throw it over the incubator. That will help to hold in the heat longer. Oh, and don't forget to take your nap. ;)
Thats excatly what I did and probably the reason I got two chicks. This bator is rented. Ill buy my own and not cheap out if I ever do it again for sure.

Ok so I pulled them both out and we are not doing as bad as I thought. Their eyes are open and clear. I think it was just super sleepy! We do have one splayed foot and I bandaged.

I couldnt help myself and candled the rest and cleaned out debris from the bator. I didnt see any movements so im not hopeful but humidity was getting low and no visible pips so I refilled bottom, replaced mat and did a quick wipe and put them back in. Figured couldnt hurt anything!

The two chicks are in the brooder now and see happy. Ill introduce food and water tomorrow.
Their feet are usually all bent out of shape when they first hatch, give them some time and they'll straighten out.

Im still not sure what coloring is, but they look almost identical!

I guess you'll maybe be able to tell better once they start feathering out? I acquired a paint silkie pullet yesterday that had hatched out on Dec. 15th, plus 6 more silkie hatching egg's from where she came from. Yes, I put those egg's in my incubator too. They are a different line than the one's that were shipped to me are. ;)

Those look too dark to me, to be paint/splash. I’d say partridge! Congrats on having 2 hatch. Anything else going on in the bator?

Oh, in order to post videos here, they must be uploaded to Youtube, Vimeo, etc first, then embedded here. Click on the “film strip” icon and it shows you the acceptable sites.
