LOS ANGELES county CA under bird quarantine :(

The government page says "near 100%" mortality for unvaccinated birds. That sounds pretty serious.

Edited to add -- here is the exact language form USDA's site:

"Virulent Newcastle disease is one of the most serious poultry diseases worldwide. A death rate of almost 100 percent can occur in unvaccinated poultry flocks. Virulent Newcastle disease can infect and cause death even in vaccinated poultry."
unvaccinated? is there a vaccination?

K this does not inspire confidence. See March 14 update.

Something in the USDAs approach needs to change. They perhaps can’t use the same approach they did in 2003. The game seems to have changed.
Northern Ca chicken owners please consider calling Governor Newsoms office soon to ask what their “better” plan is around this.

Will do. Redwood City is Bay Area. Not too far from me. If it can travel from SoCal to Redwood City, then nowhere is going to be safe for long. That's 500 miles.

Thanks for posting this.

I thought I had understood from my chicken vet that vnd can be in flocks, it’s the outbreaks they have to control.
Wish I was a fly on the wall as to how this all came down.
@Brahma Chicken5000 could you possibly find out for us and also about the Tracy, ca case?
I spoke with two CDFA branches this morning and they hay no information on anything in Tracy, nor the one in Redwood City. I will call again tomorrow.
