Luikse Vechter aka Liege Fighter Thread

Pics
They look great, still really like that grey colored one!

I’ve been battling a couple of broody hens in my liege. One hen I can’t seem to break, I make have to give her a chick or something to get her off the nest. Had another that was broody for a few days but gave up after I kept moving her and taking eggs. The other is setting on an empty nest, and I can isolate her for a few days and put her back and she goes right back to trying to set on invisible eggs, she’s persistent.

Really messed up my egg production having a couple of broody hens, things seem to be picking up a bit, but we will see how this heat does.

Birds are looking good! On another note my Bruges fighters are getting bigger. They seem to be significantly more flighty and gamey seeming than my liege were. They’re extremely active little chicks. I’ll post updated pics in that thread tomorrow! @Hideous Hermit Keep me posted when you get some eggs! I know you only got one hen, but I’ll take even a few eggs to try to get 1 chick to set up another breeding group!

How are these guys with chicks? I managed to pick up an 11 month old pair. I’m building a new coop and pen, which I also intend to be my nursery/brooder. Will be more secure with 1/2 inch hardware cloth for the first 3 feet and probably chicken wire under it to stop those digging critters. I want to put the Liege roo and hen in there with a couple broody hens and let them raise chicks.

Here’s a 3 month old update for anyone still following. Confirmed 4 cockerels and 2 pullets. They are getting along just fine right now and they are all lap chickens, if I’m in the yard they are following me around.

I’m ready for some more eggs (or hens) if anyone has. Must be pure liege and from parents that meet the breed standard. Can pick up within a reasonable distance of Philly, or ship.

My liege hens have been particularly broody. Anyone else notice the same? Going to offer them some chicks from the feed store soon I guess.
