Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Ok, here is mine. Every time I look at this picture, I think about the cartoons where the chick pops his legs out and is running around stuck in the shell. I use to think that was so stupid, chicks don't come out feet first.....

Just candled the eggs. 10 out of 10 are developing nicely. The questionable dud egg last week turns out to be doing well. This is the first time I try to hatch my own eggs and I am loving it. The hatch rate probably going to be much higher than the bought eggs in the past. Happy hatching everybody.

I set 24 quail eggs and I am down to 23 now. When I added water today there was an egg just cracked in half with all the contents saved neatly in the bottom shell piece. I must of had a bad egg, but luckily it was an easy clean up. No stink, no scrubbing. I just picked up the tiny little egg shell cup and threw it away, it looked unfertile.

I have never tried to hatch quail and this not being able to candle it making me crazy. I have no idea what I have growing, I really just have to sit on my hands and wait!!!

Ah Steve - I am constantly having to go through the laundry basket to search through jeans pockets to find whatever it is I am missing. If I ask hubby where something is, "What pants were you wearing that day" is the response I get. When I really can't find something I have to look in the pockets of my apron. Once I couldn't figure out what happened to the eggs. Apparently I had forgotten to take them out of the apron pocket and just hung it up with 2 eggs in it.

That is crazy-cool! It is like that cartoon.

Daisy-chick - Nice to see your pretty face on your avatar.
Kathy - LOVE the beach balls.
Mahonri - That actually does sound scary. I firmly believe that sleep is underrated. Sometimes you get a good amount of rest and the body can do its job of healing. But watch that numb arm thing.

I am sitting at my desk, looking out the window. The rain drives down for a few minutes and hitting the palm fronds makes a hollow noise. The sky is that opaque gray- I can see no blue sky but the cloud cover is diffused with light. It almost never rains here (Mojave Desert) so it is a treat. We opened the big doors and someone grabbed a Pendleton blanket and we stood under it in the doorway. I can smell the freshness of the rain, the slight cat-urine scent of the creosote bushes and the sour smell of the Pendleton blanket.
I am wondering what it is like where all of you are across the internet.
