1 egg going into lock down (really? 1)![]()
I really hope it';s a spotted baby if it will be the only one. (paint silkie)
Unfortunately I got 50% too from the two eggs I got from you. I set them oh boy... Saturday I think or Sunday so I think they've still got a week to go. It'll be a lone chick for a few days but I should have poults and chicks hatching a few days later.
I am cautiously optimistic about my flock. I had a phone consultation with a vet, and she seemed to think that my hen's disease would have hit the rest of the flock already if it was highly contagious. She seemed to think it was more likely to be a reproductive issue, or cancer, especially since it is hatchery stock, but there was no harm in force feeding if the food was passing through okay. I decided I would give it a little more time, and if things don't improve, I'll have the 2 sick ones euthanized and a necropsy done. And then lo and behold, the first sick hen that has been flat for a week, started to walk around and drink on her own today. At first, I though she was happy to have company, as she had been in isolation and I added the second sick hen. Tonight, I put them both out in the garden hoop house, as opposed to in cages in my house. The hopefully recovering hen was walking around eating bugs and greens! The other hen is hunched flat on the ground, though. Time will tell.
Sounds like you may have to incubate again...
