Malpositioned/shrink wrapped duckling?! HELP!

If temp wasn't right they possibly are early...Understand? Hatching eggs the temp and humidity have to be correct to hatch properly.

Yes I just failed to calibrate my incubator and didn’t understand that importance from the start. That was my fault. I have to live with that.

I’m doing my best to learn from each step of this... and I feel terrible that 3 have already lost their lives due to my initial negligence.

Just praying now.

Well I definitely would of waited longer but I understand your it was your first time. Chicks and Ducklings can't be rushed.
Best wishes all the same...

Don’t beat yourself up. We all have to learn, one way or another. I’m sure you got some good practice on these, and hopefully some of them will be fine. :hugs

And although @chickens really gives me credit for teaching her, we still have very different styles, mostly because of our vastly different localities, and different philosophies. Incubating is unfortunately much trial and error. Perfect first hatches are rare!!! We all have to find our own comfort zone with assisting or not assisting, and also what humidity and temps work for our own eggs and situations.

But you did good trusting your instincts. Sometimes we over react, sometimes we under react. Practice practice practice!!! It may be sad for some of the negative outcomes, but overall, you will learn as you go. Just never give up. :)

Thank you for this. This has definitely been a trial and error...
I am very grateful to have found this forum and you all are so helpful.

I’m a little shell shocked (pardon the pun), but I do not want to give up. This is a pretty cool experience even with the heartache.

I will update tomorrow morning if these babies make it through tonight. <3

How are the babies doing now?
Yolk absorbing good?

They are doing really well!!!
I’m still trying not to get my hopes up, but #2 is a wobbly little buddy, napping on and off but the second I open the incubator he wants to hop out of it! No yolk sack at all he is almost completely healed!

And the other two are doing really well as well!! They are kicking and kicking, their yolk sacks are a clean, light orange color with very microscopic looking veins... and they have drawn up close to their bodies and are getting smaller and smaller!

From what I understand, even after the yolk sack is gone they can die suddenly due to complications not visible, so I have warned my kiddos.

I’m praying hard y’all...

I will update in the morning!!

Good morning...I hope the Ducklings are doing better today. :fl...:frow

Good morning!!!
They are!! I can’t believe it!!
We have one out of the incubator in the brooder aka bathtub... under heating lamp, lots of frolicking room, wet hatchling food and water.
The others are still in the incubator. No more yolk sacks but they have a bit of the shell stuff still stuck to them. But it’s drying off.
I’m doctoring their hiney’s with betadine and they are fluffing up nicely!
