Thanks. I have an 'article' almost done about building hoop coop/tractor....
....it turned out pretty nice, best feature is foldable aprons.....
.....not sure why I haven't finished and posted it.
I didn't really need it at this point, and may build another for here anyway, will use it next year for meat birds or turkeys.
He's a pretty good buddy, has helped me do some heavy work around here, is a complete chicken newbie but good engineer, it's great field test situation, and I'll probably get one of those cockerels for my freezer.

That ratio is not pure hatch ratio..... 5 were purchased EE pullets....so typical 50/50 for the hatched ones.
I'll still need to cull a bunch of older layers by fall, probably 8, may try to sell/trade some, will butcher the rest.

what tarp do you have over the top and where did you get it? I had a cheapy that just started leaking on my hoop coop and looking for something that lasts more than 4 months LOL

Thanks all that chimed in on their young cockerel situations, we are going to try and allow ours to have the run of the property until fall. Hoping they will come back to the run for roosting. We will be splitting our two flocks more evenly and moving some of our laying hens to our farm spot for re-integration with their original flock. We will then see how the cockerels shake out and if there is one we can keep for breeding purposes to replace our two-year-old BO roo for breeding this fall.

I have a question for all you experts, which breed of roo would you rather keep and why? Here are your two choices - Easter Egger or an Oliver Egger? Thanks

I'm certainly no expert...but....always willing to give my opinion..hahaha!
Depends on your 'breeding goals'.
I'd seriously question if the one is really an olive egger(depending on parentage), especially if your goals is egg color.
If you just want more birds for laying and some meat, keep the larger one, after assessing for temperament of course.

My understanding on the OE is that it is true, seen the pullets eggs they produce and they are olive. The dad is a rumpless Aracauna and the mom is an EE and the EE parentage is the same rooster and a Russian Orloff hen.

An Olive Egger is just a specific kind of Easter Egger really. So like aart said, depends on your goals.
