Pullet or Cockerel?? 10.5 weeks Mystic Maran. The black comb and wattles are throwing me off. This one is larger than the others. My husband said he heard a little one trying to crow and I’m trying to figure out who the culprit is 😂

Someone also told me that Mystic Marans do not have black combs or wattles so it has to be a different breed. Is this true??

I happen to be in a similar situation...

We got a pair of copper maran chicks sold as pullets from a breeder up north last month. Now, one of them is starting to challenge the known cockrell in a very rooster-like way.

Pics of the maybe-male below if anyone wants to weigh in

Obviously, that could be a male trait, look for other Obviously male signs such as saddle, hackles, comb and wattles size, colour etc, leg size. However, I have a female Welsummer, head of one of my flocks, she is in with 5 other girls and q handsome boy called Cluck Stock and 2 smoking nuggets. She lays everyday, but in 2 years has never allowed him to breed her, challenges him, roo dance and everything. Moral of the story, occasionally, you do just get a diva girl! ❤️
