Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I have that happen sometimes with birds that have been newly moved into pens they are unfamiliar with. I will wait til its close to dark and they have all roosted and will move them one by one to where I want them to roost. Some get it and the next night will go where you put them...others don't, so I will repeat it for the ones that didn't get it the first time and usually by the second or third time almost all of them will have it and will do well to teach the others where to go. I think they will be alright...it gets a lot colder here and they do fine

I find that when moving chickens into new coops that doing it at night does work best, but have also moved them during the day without any problems. I also find that once they are moved in, that it is much easier to get them accquainted with their new surroundings if I don't let them out to free range for a few days and restrict them to their coop runs only. After a few days of confinment they are let out and I don't have any issues getting them back into their new coops, they know exactly where to go at bedtime. They really are little smarties.

Good Morning and yes, I did. I was just monkeyingaround with some of them. :)

I'm trying to figure out how to make a line in my signature pink again and I forgot the color font code.

yay! i hope it really helps to speed things up! I understand how frustrating it is when using dial up. Used to have it a while back and it drove me insane!

When do you have chickies due to hatch? I'm hoping to get some set this weekend once I actually have some time off. I'm exhausted!

I have had good results with Tylan.

Hi all,
Need some advice- got a little bantam pair in the mail today and the pullet is a bit congested.
At first, I thought she got the wrong pipe while horking down feed when she first arrived, but it is still there...
So-do chickens get shipping fever? or coukd aspiration pneumonia be that quick?
What should I give her??
They,re both eating and drinking well.
I have Tylan, Duramycin, and medicated chick starter
can run out for whatever else tomorrow...
Any advice appreciated!!

Darryl my Splash girl is giving me some very nice eggies for Donna. She has never given me eggs this rich in color...she seems to be laying darker as she gets older. She is 3.

Here is a photo with flash (they are slightly washed out..sorry) of the eggs I am collecting for her. Hope they pick up the pace a little more, last week I had 17 eggs ready to send her.....this week the girls are being a bit slower, may have something to do with the very cold and frosty weather. BURR!!!!!

Lovely Kim! Hope the others pick up for you soon! I'm off to work.... its been a bad scheduling week for my back. They put almost all my hours in three days, so by the time I get home I'm ready to cry and just have to rest my back. Tomorrow I have a short shift in the morning. I'm just praying I get through today....my back has just about had it and needs a break

Good morning all! Cold as blazes here again today, but at least the wind calmed down. I worry about some of mine too. The girls I got from you Kim, never go to roost in the coop. I have tried leaving them in the run, and they go in the coop to eat, but prefer to roost out in the run at night. Same with some of the boys.

I've tried putting them in the coop at night, and that was a diaster! They were all running around in the dark trying to get out of the coop! Running into fences when they got outside, and then couldn't find the roosts in the dark. So, I leave the pop door open at night now for those that decide they want in. You can always tell in the morning who spent the night outside, they all have frosty backs!
